I'm reviewing the 5D3 after going through SO many other cameras. I started 2014 with a t3i and a 5D classic and progressed to every stepping stone from there :P. My list went like this: t3i -> 5D classic -> 5D2 -> 1D2 -> 1D classic -> 6D -> 1D3 -> 5D3
I owned a few of those at the same time of course (Who would go from a 6D to a 1D3!? :P I owned both at once).
I have been mostly finding my way in photography and taking w/e jobs I can get, but I'm not really searching for jobs as I work a ton and have class...That being said, I did get hired to shoot all sports for my school and I owned a 1D2 and 6D at the time.
The 6D was pretty darn good surprisingly! And 1D2 was great but not high enough quality so I figured the 1D3 would be much better, I wasn't really impressed though. So I sold the 1D3 and 1D2 and only had the 6D for a while. I was debating between the 1D4 and the 5D3 and oh boy did I make the right decision!
The 5D3 is by far the best camera I have ever owned. I wouldn't have believed you if you told me I'd own one on day but now that I have one, I won't ever let it go!
This camera has the image quality of the 6D (which blew me away!) And is a 10/10. I couldn't see images being much sharper or more perfect. The look of the photos is superb and unparalleled. Without editing I feel like I can give my images to the client, after editing I feel like I should get a gallery. The camera really is the perfect tool to express my work.
The AF system on this camera is the worlds best in my opinion. It beats every camera I have owned before it (1D classic, 1D2, 1D3) and tracks like a monster! It does exactly what I want it to when I set it properly.
(This is going to be a redundant review as I'm just going to keep praising it lol)
The build of the camera: Not quite as high as a 1D series body from looks, but I'm 100% certain it is. I wouldn't fear taking this camera anywhere and having it function how it's supposed to. I would anticipate the lens giving out before the camera does haha.
Function: This camera can do everything. 6FPS is fast enough to capture the moment even when shooting a hockey game or basketball game. The camera has so many functions that are incredibly useful and the button layout is perfect for me in every way. I prefer the "nipple" toggle button rather than the wheel/directional pad on the 6D. The buttons are firm and sealed so that's helpful. The camera will shoot anything and everything you point it at and it will perform. There's no doubt that this is an everything camera.
ISO performance: I shot a hockey game yesterday with ISO 4000 and did not have to touch the noise reduction in LR....I think that it speaks for itself and I wouldn't worry too much if I had to push it past 8000
I'll cut this review short as it's clearly an A+ in my book. If anyone is debating the extra money from the 6D to the 5D3 or debating the 1D4 over the 5D3, stop debating and get the 5D3. It's the best
