I'm reviewing the 5D3 after going through SO many other cameras. I started 2014 with a t3i and a 5D classic and progressed to every stepping stone from there :P. My list went like this: t3i -> 5D classic -> 5D2 -> 1D2 -> 1D classic -> 6D -> 1D3 -> 5D3

I owned a few of those at the same time of course (Who would go from a 6D to a 1D3!? :P I owned both at once).

I have been mostly finding my way in photography and taking w/e jobs I can get, but I'm not really searching for jobs as I work a ton and have class...That being said, I did get hired to shoot all sports for my school and I owned a 1D2 and 6D at the time.

The 6D was pretty darn good surprisingly! And 1D2 was great but not high enough quality so I figured the 1D3 would be much better, I wasn't really impressed though. So I sold the 1D3 and 1D2 and only had the 6D for a while. I was debating between the 1D4 and the 5D3 and oh boy did I make the right decision!

The 5D3 is by far the best camera I have ever owned. I wouldn't have believed you if you told me I'd own one on day but now that I have one, I won't ever let it go!

This camera has the image quality of the 6D (which blew me away!) And is a 10/10. I couldn't see images being much sharper or more perfect. The look of the photos is superb and unparalleled. Without editing I feel like I can give my images to the client, after editing I feel like I should get a gallery. The camera really is the perfect tool to express my work.

The AF system on this camera is the worlds best in my opinion. It beats every camera I have owned before it (1D classic, 1D2, 1D3) and tracks like a monster! It does exactly what I want it to when I set it properly.

(This is going to be a redundant review as I'm just going to keep praising it lol)

The build of the camera: Not quite as high as a 1D series body from looks, but I'm 100% certain it is. I wouldn't fear taking this camera anywhere and having it function how it's supposed to. I would anticipate the lens giving out before the camera does haha.

Function: This camera can do everything. 6FPS is fast enough to capture the moment even when shooting a hockey game or basketball game. The camera has so many functions that are incredibly useful and the button layout is perfect for me in every way. I prefer the "nipple" toggle button rather than the wheel/directional pad on the 6D. The buttons are firm and sealed so that's helpful. The camera will shoot anything and everything you point it at and it will perform. There's no doubt that this is an everything camera.

ISO performance: I shot a hockey game yesterday with ISO 4000 and did not have to touch the noise reduction in LR....I think that it speaks for itself and I wouldn't worry too much if I had to push it past 8000

I'll cut this review short as it's clearly an A+ in my book. If anyone is debating the extra money from the 6D to the 5D3 or debating the 1D4 over the 5D3, stop debating and get the 5D3. It's the best :D

Man - I can not help but think you need to spend some time with one camera for a while . The best camera in the world is only as good as the photographer who uses it .

I kept the 6D for quite a while and shot the t3i for over a year and was extremely happy. The issue was that I didn't know where my upgrade was going to be. I knew my settings and I knew I had the right glass, but the camera's weren't doing what I wanted all the way. I still shot all of these cameras and produced paying images and quality product, but I personally wasn't happy. I wanted the 6D's IQ with the 1D series AF system and the 5D3 is exactly where it's at. I always say that any camera in my hand is a professional camera, I wouldn't be afraid to shoot an entire even with my old t3i, it's just a matter of being happy with the camera AND being happy with the image. The 1D3 gave great images even though I didn't like them! That was terrific camera and it produced sharp, contrasting and memorable images...but the 5D3 is better. I had a goal for 2015, which was to get a 5D3 and I was able to find one for a STEAL of a price way sooner than expected. I was satisfied with just the 6D but couldn't pass up the price on this 5D3

I got a steal of a deal on mine that will most likely beat the 2015 prices as well! These new cameras are not impressing me much but the 5D4 is supposed to be announced sometime this week I believe. I am much happier spending less than $2000 on a camera with less MP rather than spending $4000 when I can get a 1Dx lol

I paid $1800 shipped and paypaled. I can't remember how many clicks it has though, came with the box and paperwork and it also came with 2 32GB CF X400 cards. Super great deal in my mind :)

Typically I don't like posting the prices that I paid because I buy and sell so many items so fast, but the 5D3 will most likely stay in my possession until it dies. I mean, the only other upgrade is either the 1Dx or one of the new 5D's that are coming out, and I don't have $4000+ haha.

I have used the 1DX since November 2013 and it is a fantastic piece of kit. However if you don't need the ultimate in high ISO, shoot fast erratic subjects and don't bang in nails with your camera then I suspect that the 5D3 is, in practical terms, just as good.

I'm upgrading from a 5Dc which I've had for 6-7 years now. I'm planning on keeping this 5D3 for the long haul.

I had (and loved) my 5Dc from 2006 to 2014 but I think the ISO performance and versatility of the 5D3 will give you a very pleasant surprise!
