Hello, everyone,

There is one 1D Mark IV heavily used body (slight scratch marks on body) with 800k actuations for $1300. Owner says, that shutter assembly was never changed. How do you think, is it wort to risk and buy it?
Currently I have 5D3, 6D, 1D2N and 1D3 :D

No. For $300-400 more, you can get one around 100k on the shutter. Or as a shamless plug, you could buy mine with a much lower shutter count.

I wouldn't risk it either, but at that price it would be very hard for me to resist. :D

Well at least you you know it is well tried and tested!
A friend of mine has a Canon 20D that is approaching 3 times it's design shutter life and is still going strong.
I used to have a 1D4 and it is a VERY good camera but I am not up to date on used prices in the US so I can't say if it is good value or not. However shutter replacements are not very expensive so check the prices where you live and budget that into your decision. It may last another 800K shots, but it may last another 8! So check the replacement cost and then decide would be my advice.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

$1300 + service cost of new shutter.

Do the math.

Very best,

Out of curiosity, what would it cost to have a new shutter put in a 1DIV?

Yes, how much or what it cost to change/have a new shutter put in 1D4 or any Canon 1 series cameras?

Heya,

$300~400 easy. To start.

You end up with a $1700 1D4, that has had over 800k actuation, which means the rest of the camera has been through a lot too. Not just the shutter. So while the shutter is likely to be replaced soon, there's other parts likely ready to be replaced too.

When for $200 more or so, you can get a used 1D4 that is not nearly as used and way past end of life.

It's just not a good buy, just because you can fix it, doesn't mean it won't just fry soon anyways in other ways other than the shutter too.

Very best,

Ups, seems dollar rised its value in compare Eur. So the price is $1160. Today have check it. It looks quite ok, of course there is minor signs of usage, but nothing bad. Instead of 1D4 i bought one more 1D3 for $400 :) Got 1D series addict :D

Hard pass for me. 800k shutter actuations means the rest has been well used too. I wouldn't risk other potential issues just to save a few bucks.

according to this http://www.shutteractuations.com …-camera-shutter-lifetime/ (external link) the shutter life is well beyond its' expected life, as others have said.
