Sigma 30mm A vs 35mm A?

I'm guessing not a choice many make. But I'm looking for a fast (f/1.4) walkaround lens for my SL1, and the Sigma 30mm seems to fit the bill and has the FOV I'd like.

But the 35mm would also work on my 6D and looks to have slightly better IQ, although it's also larger (big consideration because I want to use this lens primarily on the SL1) and more pricey.

Also a bit concerned about reported front focusing issues with the Sigma lenses, as my SL1 does not have AFMA.

if you want a small lightweight lens for the SL1 go with either of the canon pancake lenses and save a pile of cash.

since buying it about 5 months ago the sigma 35 A has been my go to lens on 6D. it needed MFA but that is as much (maybe more) an issue with the body and not the lens. virtually every lens i own needs the same type correction on 6d and seems fine on my XSi, although i admittedly rarely use it anymore.

I already have the 24mm ef-s pancake. I'm looking for a faster lens.

Because you also have the 6D I would go for the 35 that can be used on either body.

You've already got a 24-70, and a 50mm. If you don't think you'll use the 35 a TON on your 6D, I'd buy the 30mm and never take it off your sl1. I had one before I bought my 18-35 and I had a hard time selling it. I it'll turn your sl1 into a cheap and small walk around option that you'll actually enjoy shooting.

Also a bit concerned about reported front focusing issues with the Sigma lenses, as my SL1 does not have AFMA.

If you want a lens in that focal length this is fairly small, light, and perfect for your sl1 then get the 30A. If you want a lens in that focal length that will work on both your sl1 and 6d but do not care about size and weight get the 35A

It does not matter if your camera body had micro focus adjustment built in. You can buy the sigma dock and adjust focus that way. Plus with the dock you don't get just one focus adjustment option you get several different focus distance adjustment plus the ability to update the firmware of your lens when new versions are released.

Sigma's USB dock can take care of those issues if they do occur.

I'd go for the 35 since I'd want to be able to use a lens on all my bodies.

I'd opt for the 30mm or the EF 35mm f2 IS. The 35/2 non-IS was my favorite lens on my T2i, and it's one that I'd also recommend if you want a small and light lens for your SL1, though from everything I've read the IS model is a significant improvement (which is saying something because the old one was pretty darn good) and it's not that much bigger/heavier.

Heya,

Unfortunately you're comparing a lens made for APS-C and one that fits all, and two prices that are significantly different.

I'd get the older 30 F1.4 Sigma, it's nearly just as good as the ART, and it's cheap. Still relatively small so it won't be too crazy on the SL1.

And if you need a fast prime on full frame, maybe just look at the EF 35 F2 IS.

Or, at that point, just EF 35 F2 IS on both.

Very best,

For the ability to adjust on the Sigma Dock, I'd recommend either of the Art lenses over the old 30/1.4.

Another vote for the 35A. This lens is already terrific on crop, and will be magic to see on a 6D. If you want something fast for the SL1, why not just get the new cheap 35mm from YongNuo?

He's already said that the Canon 35/2 IS wasn't fast enough. The Yongnou is no faster.

For weight, pick the 30A. For best IQ and secondary use on 6D, pick the 35A.

Just an FYI...the 30mm siggy is about 1/3 a stop faster than the Canon F2 IS. I just don't want you to get your hopes up of a huge difference in shutter speed between the two. The 35mm sigma is brighter (5/6th a stop faster).
