Just a thought some insurance policies let you upgrade, difference at your cost of course.

Eg second hand value = £600 , the repair is £1,200 , insured for £1,800. They may let you settle formhaving a cheque for £1,200.
But some insist on you paying the difference.
Only a thought but if so now might be the time to use this to upgrade?

Yeah. When my gear got stolen, the insurance company didn't want to give me a cheque. But I did get store credit (at the store of my choosing) to buy whatever I wanted. Upgrade time :)

Thanks for your service. Afghanistan makes my submarine patrols seem like child's play.

I have left the battery out, and pulled the watch battery, going to let it sit for a good amount of time, and then try putting the batteries back in. I won’t be back in the US for about 6 weeks, so I can’t do anything at this point. Don’t even know if it’s worth it when I’m home to send it to canon.

I do have insurance on all my gear, and I am now waiting to hear from my insurance company on what their course of action is for me.
…wish me luck

James, I would not give up on the 7D. It may have survived. Let us know if removing the batteries has any affect. You just may be surprised.
Otherwise can't they mail you a 7D Mk II ? That would be OK, wouldn't it? :-D

So I have been back on us soil for about 2 weeks now, and I dropped the 7d off to the camera shop. I got a call couple days later and they said the battery circuit was ‘dead’ and needed replacing. $237 repair. I said go for it, and it’s been about 7 working days and not done yet. Once it’s done ill stop by with a few lenses and have them check them out as well.

I have not rented any new bodies yet, as I just haven’t had any time. But I really am leaning more towards the 5d iii. Maybe soon the price will drop some and I’ll just nab it up as a welcome back home gift to me..

The 6D is on sale for $1250 I think. The 7D is being closed out for $749.

Price HAS been dropping. It's a funny dynamic where the new price is dropping enough that most people are refusing to sell theirs because they won't part with it for that price, or they ask for more than a new one goes for. The prices are good, but no deals to be had on top of it. Which just makes me keep waiting. -?
