Taken this week on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. This is picture of the Queens personal bedroom. Taken hand held iso1600. The Yacht is now retired from service and is on show to the public at Edingburgh Dock Scotland.

Well, The Queen used it for over 40 years, the Duke had an ajoining room with a connecting door.

Nicely done, especially handheld.

My wife just bought the DVD Windsor Castle---A Royal Year. The Royals have certainly managed to create quite a lifestyle for themselves. I'm sure they had to make a few sacrifices onboard a smallish yacht (the size of some cruise ships). AFter all, where would you keep the horses and the Corgis?

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

the frame for me kind of distracts from the picture.

Nice picture. I'm still learning about which ISO is best when shooting, so could explain why you went with 1600 instead of something lower? Thanks!

The higher the ISO rating means you can shoot at a higher shutter speed.

For example if your camera is set at 200 ISO. Your camera meter may read 30 sec at f8. If you double the rating to 400ISO you can shoot at twice the speed 60 sec f8,
800 ISO 120 sec,
1600 ISO 240 sec.

The reason I choose 1600 ISO was to get maximum shutter speed in such low light because I was hand holding the camera. Otherwise camera shake would have been very noticeable. The trade off for using high ISO is the picture starts to get noisy or grainy but at the magnification I gave the picture the noise was hardly noticeable.

Ok, I was wondering if it was because of a lighting issue...but the room looks so well lit! Well, that's the one nice thing about digital, you can experiment and see the results instantly.

Thanks for the explanation. I tend to shy away from the higher ISO's because of the noise, but I guess I should start working with it because it'll allow me greater flexibility.

Nice pictures - I'm surprised you were allowed to take photos. Whenever I have visited castles owned by the Royals, they have had a strict "no photographs" policy.

This was true when the attraction opened last year but this year they have allowed people to take pictures. I dont know what has changed, This is the first time the public have been allowed to view a living Monarch,s sleeping quarters.
