I've been avoiding retouching for the last few years; I rarely found comfort in doing it but recognized how necessary it was. Anyway, I'm getting back in the game and am looking for resources that may help me improve this skill set. I'm currently reading "Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques" by Scott Kelby. It's a great book however sometimes the "Kelby brand" turns me off if that makes sense

I'm looking to expand into fashion/portraiture (I mostly shoot still life.) I'd like to learn techniques dealing with skin softening (with texture), composites, digital makeup, and dodging/burning methods, but am also open to increasing my knowledge in other areas.

Any books, web links, classes, and videos will be appreciated.
