i currently own the 24-70 L cannon. I was looking at the buying the 70-200 lens for the zoom. But they are a bit pricey I went to the camera shop and he said I should look at buying the 70-200 sigma. What are your thoughts on this lens.

Sorry, I don't really know anything about this lens, but if I were interested in it, this is where I would start:

Take a long and hard look at the sample photos from Sigma and Canon. Sigma's offerings tend to be 'nice', especially for the price, but Canon's offering in the 70-200mm f/2.8 with stabilization is significantly better, especially away from the centre of the lens. (It is possible that Sigma has slipped in a revised version and closed the gap since I was last looking at these in any detail, so double check what's current.)

You may decide to go with waiting a little longer and saving up for the Canon version. If you take care of it and don't outright abuse it, then the lens should last for decades of use after all. Picking a lens is not always an easy task when it comes to budget matters. Good luck with whatever route you go with.
