sigma 24-70

anyone care to chime in how well the sigma 24-70/2.8 performs against the tamron 24-70/2.8 vc? i know the sigma doesn't have the stabilization and the tammy performs very well from what i hear.

the sigma is a few hundred less than the tammy and the canon mk1 and i was wondering how it stacked up, on a 5d2 body.

I tried a Σ24-70 at the retail counted. I would call it noticeably worse than the Tamron 28-75. The Tamron and Canon 24-70s are all better than the 28-75.

Are we talking about the HSM version or the non-HSM?

The link above is for the non-HSM version. I think the HSM is newer and certainly does better:

The Tamron still does better though :P.

certainly much better, the HSM seems to get soft wide open as you zoom in. the Tamron stays sharp throughout the focal lengths, plus its stabilized.
