Jets are VERY COOL. We tried to hold an event this year at a small local airport but unfortunately it was very windy all day. We're getting to try again next year plus I may be attending a big jet event in late Sept. Our Giant Scale event has grown over the years thanks to my photos. When I was asked to shoot it back in 2008 I decided to make up a nice album which could be used to reward the sponsors & entice new ones. Now it draws more pilots who just want to be in the album. We draw over 120 pilots if it's a nice weekend. Once they open the flight line I'm BUSY until it closes.

This is the group photo that we do to send to the sponsors. It includes the pilots & the volunteers & as you can see it's a big crowd. Most pilots bring 3 or 4 aircraft to fly or display & there are usually 4 aircraft in the circuit from about 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM when we start the draws for door prizes.

For anyone interested the full event album is here. http://www.flickr.com …/albums/72157657771052315 (external link)

I'm moving my albums from Picasa Web Albums to Flickr after a major change Google forced on users which just doesn't fit my needs. Still learning how Flickr works but getting there.

Cicopo,

I too take a lot of model airplane photos. I attend most, if not all, of the event at our local club. I am a member of Arizona Model Aviators near Apache Junction, AZ.

This is a friends Storch, built over a decade ago.

Phil

Nice to know there are a few of us shooting the local events. There are a lot more opportunities to perfect our craft shooting R/C than full scale in most regions. Plus you end up with lots of new friends from all walks of life.

These are from Thunder Over Michigan in Ypsilanti this past weekend. I attended on Saturday, when the conditions were terrible. Sunday was a gorgeous day and the sky was so much better, but I didn't go that day. I'd curious to see if anyone here attended on Sunday and got some decent shots from then.

Anyway, here we are:

We shot this sequence to promote Carbon Fiber Air Show's new Giles/Cobra racing feature. Lest Ye forget and think that any facet of aviation photography is without risk, just a few months after I shot this assignment, Andrew lost his life in a practice session for The New York Air Show. He was in a relatively gentle pull and a roll to inverted when the entire rear fuselage section just ahead of the empennage twisted off the rest of the airframe. Looking at the four hours of low level head on sequences we shot makes me sad, apprehensive and grateful, along with just a bit nauseated.

Sad to hear; but that is an absolutely astonishing image

DC-10 Air Tanker 910 making a low, slow pass. It can carry up to 12,000 gallons (45,000 liters) of water or fire retardant in an exterior mounted belly tank, the contents of which can be released in eight seconds.

Thanks to those planes and with the help of many other planes and helicopters and over 1500 fire fighters, my town did not completely burn down recently.
