Interesting, in this first photo it looks like both ailerons are deflected downwards. Never seen that before.

So these are flaperons, it seems. That's interesting - good observation !

The will also both deflect upwards with the speed brakes deployed. I have a top side shot from an airshow in October 2021 which was the first time I had noticed the control deflections.

This was me at one of my early introductions to air shows about 40-45 years ago. It's a scan of an equally old 4x6 so the detail isn't there, but the shot itself is important to me. My dad arranged for me to get a look inside this P38 and snapped this shot with a Canon AE1 I believe. He passed a couple of years ago but was still shooting and attending all manner of transportation events up until the end. I don't think I'd have this hobby without that influence.

Don't recall if I have posted this before or not. Siginu's post reminded me of it. Back in the late 60's I attended my first airshow at the airport in Levelland, Tx. This helped start me on this crazy aviation photography hobby. The thing I didn't realize was that that first Mustang I was photographed with was in fact what is now the CAF Mustang "Gunfighter". I spent years photographing Gunfighter without realizing it was the same plane. Another picture I took back then has a partial N number on it and that was how I eventually figured it out.

Gunfighter really gets around. Makes me want to start an origin story thread...

I think that I caught just the tail of Gunfighter at the 2008 Indy Air Show.

In searching my photo files, I found this photo. It was taken the following year, in 2009 (also at the Indy Air Show)

Just found out 2023 will be the last year for the Reno Air Races, at least in Reno. Sounds like the Airport Authority is kicking them out.
