Obviously it's never going to beat a 500/4 + extender, but it's 2 pounds and in bright light, it punches well above its weight. For a $1400 AUD lens that can get right up close and still retain a lot of sharpness/contrast/detail, yeah.. It's pretty sweet. I've tried using it fully clouded days and the results were a noise fest, but in good light. It's a ripper. You can throw it around like no one's business and still get something very usable. On a 36C or 100F degree day, it makes it a lot easier than a 3.5kg lens.. Thanks everyone for the likes and comments.. always appreciated. Thanks for the tip about the RF 800 f11 lens. My same reaction when I learned about it on Monday! Someone in another thread mentioned there's one 4/22-23 at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside. Hoping to rent a lens for it so I can play with something longer than my 70-200.

Tempted to try the 600 f/11 to see if it's worth a purchase, but that 100-500 is just too good. Even if owning it is out of my budget for now.
