A few years ago I was shooting air shows with the Canon 80D. That camera did a fine job. I should have kept it.

Thanks! I didn't expect much either, but some turned out to be surprisingly nice.

Glad you got some good shots of it. Here's the best one I have. Gotta love that Scottish weather! Canon AV-1, Tamron Adaptall-2 35-135mm lens, and most likely Price Club (Konicka?) 200 speed film. You can see why I decided to by an AF camera about a month after this.

Ouch! At least I had half-cloudy weather without rain. I had my share of mis-focused pictures, but I was so pi**ed off with non-compatibility that my first EF body was 20D.

I haven't used either of the A2 35-135mm lenses, but I'm really glad I didn't use my A2 80-210 - the scanned slides have shown it to be rather bad.

Never had the pleasure of seeing an SU-27, and the only time I have seen a Mig-29 was at RIAT in 2016 - here is the Polish display bird landing in some quite pleasant light after performing most of its display in grey clag.

Proper UK airshow skies that year - so many displays with different "backgrounds depending on direction/time.

Assuming you went on the Saturday, here's the start of the same display with the usual Mig-29 asymmetric afterburner flame ..

Yes it was the Saturday and agreed, such varying conditions.

Here are two from the same Mig-29 pass, one second apart according to the Exif !!

At the time, I thought the Tamron A2 35-135 was considered to be a pretty good lens. It was certainly the best lens I had owned up until then (which, admittedly, was a pretty low bar).

Here's an Su-24 (I think) that was at the same show. In 1992, it still felt very novel to see Russian planes at shows in the West.

Great Shots! I'm still surprised how large modern fighters are compared to those from WWII.
