Picking up a Neewer TT560 speedlight as a spare/3rd light source because it's a solid unit at a real low price ($35).

Anyone have pics they can post to show their creative or unique setup?

Three lights rim right and left with colored gels, front light for fill.

Similar setup without gels. Rim lighting cranked up a bit.

More traditional 3 light setup for portrait. Key light camera left in softbox, fill in umbrella above camera and 3rd light to create spot in gray drop. Not particularly creative but very useful.

Nice photos and unique concept! What intensity did you dial in for the front fill light?

Honestly its been a while. I'm pretty sure the rim lights are a stop brighter on the baseball photo, the football shot probably a bit less.

Same set up as portrait above. Main in softbox camera left, fill in umbrella above camera and gelled and gridded background light.

I've posted this in a couple other threads, but here it is again:
430EXII in the reflective umbrella as main light, triggered with Cactus V5. No gel.
YN560II in the shoot-through umbrella for a little kicker/rim light. Optically triggered, orange gel.
YN560II on the floor, aimed up for a background light. I don't remember what the zoom was set to; just enough to make the pattern you see. Optically triggered, orange gel.

The subject stands where the colorchecker is sitting on the floor.

These aren't typical headshots - it was for a Halloween show. If you want a standard ratio, a less contrasty look with standard main/fill lights, just move the kicker light around to act as fill instead. The background is black-painted plywood on the outside of the air handler ... gotta work with what I have :)

One more note: By standing really far away and zooming in with the 70-200, I was able to make that small 4x8 plywood work well enough for a full-sized background, even with the subjects standing several feet away to get the needed separation.

Really cool photos! The plywood really adds to it. Makes me think of the movie Saw.

Different setup with same gear. For this shoot, our planned location changed at the last minute so we had to scramble, and ended up setting up in the front living room of a friend's house. (I set up in a different room with a different backdrop and my Elinchrom heads, so I could get two different looks back-to-back)

430EXII in reflective umbrella - sometimes camera right as shown, sometimes camera left as in the last shot.
(2) YN560-II's bare, pointed at the white paper - you can see one on the mantel to the left, and one on the stand to the right.

Again, by standing far away I can make the most of an almost-too-small backdrop.

One more setup. I don't think I have any really wide BTS shots, but the last one will show a little bit of it. It's similar to my orange setup from above, but instead of a background light, the third light is a kicker on a tall stand.

Again, the main light is the 430EXII in the reflective umbrella, no gel, triggered by Cactus V5.
To the rear right is a slightly diffused kicker, the YN560-II in a shoot-through umbrella. Blue gel, also triggered with the Cactus V5 (not optically, because there were other cameras around)
To the rear left is a bare YN560-II on a tall stand with a green gel, triggered by Cactus V5.

Usually I turn the shutter speed up as fast as I can (1/160) to kill ambient, in this one I dragged the shutter a bit (1/50) to get the red glow of the subject's lights.

In this one, I'm lying on the floor looking up at the subject - so the high green kicker is in the frame. This "look" wasn't really my intention, with the kicker just barely flaring into the side of the frame, but I liked how it turned out.

Goofy out-take where I wasn't bothering with composition or framing, so you can kinda see the setup:
