I was lucky enough to go to Costa Rica during Christmas/New Year's and was amazed by all the wildlife that you see right on your doorstep. The grasshopper was perched on a vase on the deck for about three days straight. As for the long horn beetle, I saw him under a railing while I was moving our luggage down to the waiting taxi. I had to quickly move him to a table (he made the strangest squeaking noise when I grabbed him by the thorax), get the camera which was already packed away, and pray that the lens didn't fog up. Thankfully it didn't, but there just wasn't enough time (is there ever?) to really do him justice.

Given the length of the antennae probably a Katydid rather than a Grasshopper. Certainly one of those must visit locations.
