Greater scaup tend to hang out in more salt water habitats whereas Lesser scaup are often seen on smaller bodies of fresh water. Wing pattern can be a good clue too. Greater scaup have white extending from the secondaries onto the primaries. Lesser scaup usually only have a white bar on their secondaries. Zach--C&C is welcome on my photos
