Mike,
Thank you. Yes, it was also my first time witnessing that egret eating a mouse!
Dennis

I have seen egrets and herons eating rats many times here in S Florida. I believe they are water rats. They also eat lots of baby birds around here.

Great photos! I'll post a rat pic from about 3 years ago.

They even eat alligator hatchlings here in Florida. Google it on youtube and you'll see what I mean. Herons and egrets are actually ferocious predators, which surprises most people. They will eat almost anything alive that they can swallow. I have so many pix of them eating rats, snakes, lizards, fish so big you can't believe they can swallow them, I see hundreds of photos taken by others that are even more amazing. What splendid creatures. Except if you are one of those who no longer has any fish in his koi pond. I know quite a few people like that too!!!!

Yes, his eyes do tell the story, and if you read his lips, he saying, "oh c#@p."
That's a very nice shot.

If anyone has interest. 56 seconds. I put together a slideshow of this Great Blue Heron since I caught it at take off and had many shots in the sequence. The Smugmug one is the best clarity.

Wonderful slide show, Bill. All the images are so beautifully done. The image quality is definitely better on Smugmug.
