First off, this was a wet and rainy day. It had been raining all weekend and it was just plain dark. I had just used the 70-200 F4 USM to take pictures of my daughter's soccer game. During a break in the rain, I decided to walk my dog. We were walking under a large bridge when I saw a bird down by the stagnant water. I use my camera to get a better look and noticed it was a green heron. This is only the second time I have seen this bird around here. That doesn't mean much other than I just don't see them. I walk slowly down the embankment to see if I can get a few shots before it got spooked. Being quite overcast and dark compounded with the fact that we were under a bridge I knew I wasn't going to have great luck. Moreover, the lens doesn't have IS to help me. I start taking some pictures hoping for the best. I was almost done when I looked away for an instant. When I turned back, the heron pulled a fish out of the water. This blew me away. Not because I witnessed something so cool as the bird hunting but this pool of water is not connected to any flowing water source. It's fed by rain water that comes through the bridge gutters and runs off the embankments. I knew there were frogs in there but I literally have no clue how a fish got in there... Looked like a perch of some kind... Good times... IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/MtsQhN
