I'm surprised to hear you say this. Not sure where you are but the GBHs are in the air all the time where I am. I've gotten to the point where I don't shoot them as much just because I have so many.

Just the other day this guy flew right in front of me while I was watching something else.

In Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens there is a lot of food for them, so they probably do not need to move so much.
Not only fish but one of them eats left over food and they all eat rats.

One of my ambitions is to try to photograph it but the rat population fluctuates (they get killed by the park keepers) a lot so I don't think I will ever do so.

Here in Florida I have seen GBH eating rodents many times. They also LOVE water snakes. And baby birds they swipe in the wetlands. I have photos of all of this. They really are top level predators around here. They will eat anything, not just fish.

And yes, I see them all the time but I still like photographing them. Especially with chicks, like in my last post which was from the weekend. We see nests every year.

So are the GBH picking off ducklings? Around here it seems that the Wood Ducks start with 12-15 hatchlings but most of the little guys don't seem to make it to adulthood. I've seen hawks pick them off. I figured the Herons were as well, but have not witnessed it.
