Has anyone found a recommended 7DM2 camera setting for shooting youth basketball?

Hrm,

1/1000s
F2.8
ISO 6400 (to ISO 12,800 maybe)

Or are you referring to focus settings, cases, etc.

Very best,

Sorry sagebrush I just have not had my 7D Mark II long enough for me to give you a definitive answer. What lens are you using? What kind of lighting in the stadium? I would probably start in manual at 1/2000 sec and f8 to f11. I would float the ISO and white balance on automatic and make sure flicker is on if needed. Then if necessary I could easily comp EV up or down a third to fine tune the exposure. Pick an auto focus case that closely resembles your need and go for it. After a couple of test shots I could fine tune white balance if needed.
Best of Luck
Mike

in a stadium, there is no way you are going to get 1/2000 at f8-f11 - in the wonderfully lit stadium here in perth, i can get 1/1000 @f4, 3200 iso - thats in an exceptionally well lit stadium - most youth sports stadiums are a lot darker, think 1/250 f2.8 3200 iso (obviously you can wind the ISO up and get faster shutter speeds)

aim for 1/500+ and depending on lens, either wide open or a stop down.

I've shot basketball and volleyball in gyms all over the place. I recommend using 1/800 for shutter speed, this will generally make the entire head critically sharp. I used to use 1/640 like the examples I'm posting here, but I've since decided I prefer to not go below 1/800. If you compromise on this shutter speed, you will start to see some softening of the head and a lot around the hands. If you go below 1/500, you will get blur effects in almost all shots, at least in a medium to large print size.

Look at the left hand of the girl in the first shot I posted.....you will get that kind of motion at just about any shutter speed you can reach indoors, but I think it is OK, especially considering how violently she is moving at that moment.

You average, lousy high school gym will be f/2.8, 1/800, ISO 12800.

A few really rare ones will allow ISO 6400 at this setting, but most of the time I see people shooting that (f/2.8, 1/800 and ISO 6400 or lower), the shot is underexposed. You really want the whites to pop and be white, do not let white jersey's turn a dingy grey with your exposure. In LR, you want the whites reading something like 95-95-95 RGB.

The other stuff.....AI servo of course, burst shutter, I tend to use single point focus with no expanstion (too much traffic on the floor), and case 4 in bodies that have AF system cases.

Right you are. I stand corrected. Don't know what I was thinking.

Good job on that shot. I will bet that girl would love to have that pic. I will be at a bb game this coming Friday, so I can give it a try with 7Dii & 70-200 f2.8 combo.
After seeing how good the 4000 ISO looks here, I will be trying it. On my 7Dc I use 1600 at bb games and only increased to 3200 if I was in a gym with poor lighting (a common circumstance at high school).

Thanks for sharing that photo.
