I've had Sabi Sands on my list for a while now but it's have to wait.

1. Masa Mara - Great Migration
2. Zimagna
3. Sabi Sands

If i have to wait to travel another year, I am going to do Botswana & Zimanga next summer/fall. Already planning it out.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

What a shot! That cub is priceless! I have noticed so many people using the 5DMk4 & 100-400mm lens on these safaris. My whole group shot with this combo except for one Nikon user (who could talk cameras, lenses & settings but could not actually apply them to taking photos). It really is a magical little marriage for wildlife, isn’t it?

Thank you!

Yes, it is an awesome combination, so versatile and extremely sharp. The only better combination(s) would be the 1d series bodies and bigger glass (500/600mm), but that is a huge price jump.
This image above I also had the 1.4x III converter on (hence the exif saying it was shot at 560mm).
This rig is my go to for 80% of my photography which is aviation and sports (all day time and outdoors), only change I do is to use the 70-200mm (or wider when needed) when doing bike races and I'm close to the action, although I don't normally use the teleconverter unless its more of a quieter scene like this one. Absolutely love it with no intention of changing for many years to come.

We looked for these cubs for four days but the pride kept them well hidden (and of course we had our limits as to just how and when we could look so as to not disturb them) . On our last morning the pride brought them out for us to see, all nine cubs! Amazing and very special. We sat for nearly two hours just watching them and getting awesome shots like this one.

Sadly you get those types of people all around, but it is nice when it is the one that is not your camera brand :-P but I'm sure it happens in reverse as well, keeping the rivalry going strong ;-)a

All very special and awesome trips.
I'm (hopefully still going to happen) going back to Sabie Sands in November this year. Zimangna and Masa Mara both on the to-do list, but going to have to wait for a while. For us local South African's the cost of those is quite substantial :-(

Well, all the cubs were feeding from the moms and starting to yawn (and it was getting late in the morning for them), so yeah nap time on its way. But quite a few were grumpy and there was a few moments of moms telling off cubs to keep them in order :-P

The moms (and dad) had just come back from a feed (sadly we didn't see that) as well and were definitely in lazy mode.

We had a similar situation with the lions....3 mamas & 6 cubs. When they finally brought them out into the open, it was nearly 6 pm & raining so it was dark. My ISO was running itself over 12,000. So, I got what I got & cannot complain.
I brought my 1.4 converter with me but I never did use it. For the few times I wish I had it on, the action was happening too fast for me to stop & put it on. Hopefully next year I will have more chances. I am looking at 2 weeks and 3 sites to safari in Botswana & Zimanga.

The picture of the bear giving me the stare is the one that gets the most comments from my friends, but these 2 (and a ton more) are at the same time. She was keeping a close eye on her 2 cubs by standing guard at the base of the tree.
