The only wild animal species that ever chased me, that was almost 30 years ago. This one charged out, but stopped about 10 feet away, flattened out then backed away. American Badger danger close.

Darned glad it backed off again; that's not a fun spot to be in! :o

It surprised me for sure, I backed up a few steps and tried to get a good angle, but it obscured itself pretty good. I saw this one first
and didn't realize I was between them. It was smaller than the other, prolly born this spring.

Ugh...so was probably momma trying to make sure you didn't get the little one? That's even scarier :p Nice to get pics of them, though. Only been able to find one, in the wild, before and all I got was a bit of head sticking out of a den.

That one I am sure is still big enough to do some serious damage to your legs and anything else they would be able to get to!

Warning! Stay Away from ME!!!!

Thank you, :-) I was by a little pond where I have seen songbirds in the past. I had my lucky 55-250mm STM, usually stuff is out of range, but not in this instance. I used to see a lot more of them, these were the first in several years. They are really beautiful animals, but not much of a sense of humor.

It was not really afraid of me, but didn't get aggressive like the other, definatly not a baby.
I left after momma backed away, not to bother them anymore. I might try again someday from accross the pond with the 150-600mm.

That sounds like a good plan; try not to antagonize things that'll back off a bear 20x their size :p

One of 8 bears this year that was in range.
I followed him into the timber but miss guessed the direction he went and he winded me.

It is hard to believe that as of next week, it will have been a whole year since I went to Africa. Here is my favorite of the big cats, the Leopard.

It was a rare treat to see her on the hunt. She ended up getting a gazelle but chased it into a small ditch so we did not see the actual kill. Still, it was amazing.
