Maybe they are gone now. but there were several places with tide pools back then. They basically stretched from Monterrey to Pacific Grove. There is a website called California Tide Pools that has location information.

This is during mating season when several males follow a female and then fight for first place. Rarely did we see a show so violent and on the surface of the water.
