Most excellent stuff there; would love to see any shots of the Tuatara that you may have. I did not know they were that ancient!

Thank you for you comments!

Fascinating, Trevor.

I listened to the chorus song and it’s extraordinary. And beautiful. And crazy enough it reminded me of an episode of Star Trek Voyager in which the doctor communicates with an alien species through music. When they “speak” with sounds they do so simultaneously and it sounds a lot like your birds, almost like a composition. Maybe the writers of the episode knew these birds and their song and were inspired by it.

Thank you so much Levina. Yes, as a Star Trek fan I know what you mean.

The following is a link from my MS OneDrive to a recording a made a wee while ago of the harmony of many bird songs on Tiri at dawn.

That's very helpful - thanks!

Now I have so much info about tidepools in California that I'll spend hours reading all about them and learning what all they have to photograph. . Can't wait for my next trip to CA!

.

You are welcome. Got to help the Okanogan Valley peeps. :)

Being English and not at all familiar with Bears ( ahh.. look its a cute bear! ) or Mountain lions (Oh come and look at this big Cat) I would probably keep shooting until I had been eaten.

It is a wise precaution, from many points of view, to do some research into the environment within which one will travel. This applies to local laws and customs, but also wildlife - especially the latter reaps benefits in making one more aware and less likely to get into a sticky or threatening situation.

Furthermore, it will make one aware of animals' postural and other body signals that will warn us of their likely next move - particularly if that could cause injury or worse. It can also lead to us anticipating some great moments - such as a predator's sudden lunge or animals that are going to display or fight. It also adds a whole new layer of context and appreciation for those (people and wildlife) one may encounter.

I've seen people from other countries (and probably some from the USA) treat the animals at Yellowstone Park and La Jolla as if they were at a petting zoo. They just don't realize the critters are wild, even if they are used to people!

I was working with someone from Singapore last night. Her WeChat avatar shows here behind a 'roo that appears to have just woken up as describes in that story!

Merry Christmas to my fave thread friends!

And a very Merry Christmas to you, Maureen. I'm happy to tell you my cancer treatment ended a month ago, I'm recovering nicely from side effects, and an MRI shows no sign of tumor remaining. A scope exam by my surgeon will hopefully confirm that. Next year should be better, hope yours will be great.
