I have gone through a couple of periods like that. It wasn't new gear that brought me back though, but new things to photograph. I am not very creative and no longer have the wish to make money from photography, so each new subject/topic has to be seen as a purely personal challenge and take me to places or events that are new to me.

5D3, 7D2, EF 16-35 f/2.8L, EF 24-70 f/2.8L II, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF 70-200 f/2.8L II, EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF 1.4x III, Sigma 150mm macro, Lumix LX100 plus a cupboard full of bags, tripods, flashes & stuff.

Jeff I'm sure many will look forward to your future exploits.
I immediately saw your results speaking volumes that several pages of a review still wouldn't convince.

Comments for egs, re FPS immediately quashed any 'oh, it's only... FPS'.
Latter is meaningless unless it has a purpose in your life, which for me wouldn't and I could relate to your comments. (note relate. Not emulate! That is a big feat to emulate your output)

For me I'm interested as am looking at updating sometime in next 3 to 6 months.

Looking forward to your photos.

Thanks Richard, its true there are camera's with better spec's on paper... I used a few. a9, a7rIII. but they also need $4000 dollar lenses and $800 extenders I just could not justify..

So far its a gem to use and I'm enjoying the tech built into it.

Congratulations Jeff! I truly look forward to seeing what you can get out of the new camera!
I know your critter friends will have fun posing for you ߘ
I am curious if the silent shutter will make any difference with them looking right at the camera... curious if they will act differently with the quietness of the camera.
Thanks in advance as you share your upcoming pics!

Medicine Man,

Nothing to do with photography but rather your use of the phrase "I'll Swanee". That brought a smile to my face. Growing up, I heard my mother use that phrase hundreds of times over the years. Never really knew what it meant until recently through the magic if google. I can hear her now saying "well I'll swanee". :-)

Ok so... this past week I decided to change the photographer I was and move to something new and different camera wise. I really love to be the underdog so it had to be something no one would think a guy like me would shoot. Had to be completely different and if 50% of the population hated it ...well it made me like it twice as much.

Now I didn't really want to spend $20,000 on new gear just to satisfy my need to be out in the woods playing with all the critters I have here in my home town. Now I tried to redo an old friend in the 7DII but that was just not to happen after using it for a month.

And I really loved my 100-400LII since my wife bought me mine shortly after it came out. Yes she's like that... She ordered it and it had come in ... me not knowing a thing.. she just told me one day that we needed to make a hour and a half drive to Barrie and pick something up from Henry's that she had come it. lol

So having an eye exam last Wednesday into same town of course I had to stop in at Henrys to take a look see... What kind of a camera guy wouldn't lol That morning Laura Jean my sales girl had taken a camera that they just received and put it in the display case. She and I were the only ones how had touched it. And as I picked it up it felt like it was meant to be in your hand... still had a little weight... but nice to hold on to.

It was a kit which included a super nice 24-105L RF lens ... lol I left it there in the display case after molesting it for a while... It smelled so good... Like Christmas Morning Lol...

Thursday Now I'm thinking I really want this camera.. I watched all the video's since its release.. maybe twice.. three times some of them lol

So I got in my truck and drove back to that little store and threw down my cash on a gamble I would love this little camera and its big ideas and promises.

Soooo being me I decided to have a little fun and not say what I was shooting and I hoped to go a good week but these guys are to smart and figured me out. So this is the place I have decided to tell the story..

Hope your not to bored with my story because I've only just begun to start the next chapter....

My... EOS R... with 24-105L RF Lens attached and control ring adaptor for EF and EF_S lenses

I wish the game could have gone on longer but hey. next time lol.

And Thats The Rest Of The Story.......
