We had another occasion when 20+ elephants were coming down the track towards us when were were returning to the lodge after our evening drive. They were very insistent that they were coming our way and our guide had to reverse quite quickly in the dark. This was a mixed herd including young calves, so the teenage males and the females were being quite protective. We were eventually delayed for about 40 minutes.

A well camouflaged (and hairy) warthog.

This one had been running around and stopped long enough for a portrait.

We had a small herd of elephants pull up trees & shrubs & throw them at us.

Interesting. So elephants have invented the idea of weapons! Or maybe they were trying to feed you.

Whatever they were doing, they wanted us out of their territory. The biggest was swaying back & forth, shaking her ears & making menacing sounds. I thought I would be scared of an angry elephant but it was fascinating to watch.

We had breakfast out on the plains every morning around 0830. We left camp at 0600 so we we were hungry & they had a huge spread for us. One morning we encountered this on our way to breakfast.....one was never sure what animals might be on their way to join us. For $450 you could take a hot air balloon ride over the Plains & have breakfast out near we were.

We saw mating lions all over the place. Their interactions go on 24 hours a day for 4-7 days. No wonder as soon as copulation was over they would fall asleep. :-P:-P:-P

That looks great having breakfast every day on the plain. We were in South Africa in winter, so had a later start at 0700, preceded by a snack and coffee. We would then stop mid way through our drive for coffee (with Amarula) and more snacks. Somewhere around 1030 we would have brunch back at the lodge. We had breakfast out in the bush a couple of times. On one occasion we were the only couple staying at the lodge and had the vehicle to ourselves. The lodge manager met us in the bush and cooked us pancakes in the open. It was probably a bit cold to eat out every morning, as it as only about 2 - 4 degrees Celsius when we set out, warming up,to about 25 by midday.

All really interesting and beautifully photographed thanks.

Interesting the descriptive dangers ever lurking and yet you can sit out under a tree and have breakfast. I suppose it's pretty vast and your views are open about you.

Not sure I'd want a balloon ride in case it ran out of puff and came down on a pack of wild ones :-)

Of all the beautiful creatures Africa has the warthog seems a misfit.

Certainly amazing experiences.
