We had breakfast out on the plains every morning around 0830. We left camp at 0600 so we we were hungry & they had a huge spread for us. One morning we encountered this on our way to breakfast.....one was never sure what animals might be on their way to join us. For $450 you could take a hot air balloon ride over the Plains & have breakfast out near we were.

LOL! Charles, for so many years I lurked in the Africa threads. When Dave (Convoy) was taking everyone on those trips, I could only dream. I never imagined that I would get the chance to go & when I got there, I never imagined so much wildlife up so close! Every week I still say to my family, "I went to Africa!". When I go to Switzerland in May, 2 of my English friends from the safari are coming over for a weekend & we will plan our trip to Botswana & maybe Zimanga, too.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Richard, there were zebra & wildebeest close by, out of the shot, but we didn't worry about them. They were scared of us. The breakfast spot was picked because there were no shrubs nearby for lurking animals.

We had the option but there was no stopping if something cool was going on so I did not go. Wasn't really interested. The day we saw the wildebeest migration, one hot air balloon came down very low & made them scatter. We were so mad because they foiled what we thought was our last chance to see it. Luckily the wildebeest re-congregated together a bit further down & then crossed. I will have to look for that picture for you.

Edited to add picture

I wish people with vehicles (balloons, planes, boats, drones, etc) would give the animals a bit of space.

What a fantastic photo. I guess the owner of the balloon will love this photo too. But yes, he shouldn't have gone so close to them.

We were so mad at him for lowering the balloon so close & startling the animals

Oh yes he did get way too low for the wildebeest. I do understand completely your reasoning for not going on a ride.

$450 for a 45 minute ride was pretty pricey.
