I have some bat earred fox but they were a ways away. Nice.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

How about the queens of the plains? The female hyenas are the dominant of the species and they travel for food in large numbers so they are hard to fend off. A cheetah will not hesitate to give up his kill to a hyena.

Jake, my pair of fishing eagles were flying right into the sun & I wasn't tracking them very well. Plus they were at a greater distance. How about a Yellow Billed Stork?

I bet we saw upwards of 20 hyenas every single day. They would follow the predators in hope of stealing their kill & we saw lots of squabbles like I posted. Ugly animals but very interesting....some were quite brave to come close to us and others were much shyer.

Marabou Storks are the most gigantic bird on the plains. This first one just nabbed a beak of wildebeest intestines & ran off with it. The second shot, I like to think, was a pose just for my camera.

As well as close up pictures of animals, I also like to show them in their environment. This one is around sunset, with the Waterberg Mountains as a back drop.

This individual gives some idea why I was a bit nervous of the elephants.

Luckily we had no elephants charging at us. Looks very menacing!

She was a bit unhappy to see us. There was some pretty loud trumpeting as well. We had quite a few encounters. There were a number of small calves around, which probably made the females a bit twitchy. There were also some young males who were biggng it up. With these, our guide sat there with the engine off and started the vehicle when an elephant got to within a few feet. That normally stopped them in their tracks. This was repeated several times, until the elephant got bored with the game. Our guide said that it had to be the elephant that backed down to prevent them getting to think that they could charge vehicles and get away with it.

We regularly met up with a herd between 20 and 30 strong when we were travelling to and from our lodge. Sometimes they moved out of our way or were calmly eating their way through bushes or knocking down trees. At other times, they decided to have some fun with us.
