I too like some of the wide shots showing the habitat thrown in with close ups. I hope you don't get sick of me saying WOW to these pics that are being posted. Thanks to Jake, Mike and Maureen we've seen a little Africa posting competition and I LIKE it.

I do my own road trips through the National Parks here in the USA but you really have to book with a safari company to do anything in Africa. A lot of the countries have areas that are quite dangerous & have nothing to do with animals so it is a safety issue there. Some Safaris are cheaper than others & one can certainly book shorter than the 8 day type that I took for less money. The Botswana trip i am looking at is about $3000 less than the Kenya trip I went on but it was a photo safari with 2 renown African photographers as our guides. Now that I have done that once, i will not pay to have photograper guides again because they were mostly for the folks who wanted/needed help with their camera settings. Isak Pretorius was our main guide & is quite famous throughout Africa & the UK but he didn't teach me anything. In fact, he insisted on seeing some of my RAW files in camp because I wasn't asking for any help or advice & he wasn't sure an old lady like me knew what I was doing. Boy, did I surprise him!:-P:-P:-P

Thank you. Not all shots are perfect or even close but they were all taken with love :-P

Hahahaha, I don't think we are competing as I love to see everyone's wildlife shots. But maybe you can tell that those of us who have visited Africa think it is a pretty special place.

For me, when a cheetah starts a chase, I have to put down the camera & watch the beauty of it. Not only fast, they are great zig-zaggers. You miss way too much behind the lens.

Last one for the day.... My jackal on a very windy afternoon. She had a litter of pups in the distance & I did not have enough lens reach. We slowly drove over to the pups in hopes of getting some adorable shots but the mama yipped sharply at them & they all dove into the den. So my picture quality is poor but I kept it anyways.

I agree. There is no competition from me. I think I would lose anyway. It is clear that those of us who have been fortunate to visit Africa were enthralled by the place and its animals. Maybe as a first time visitor it is even more special. The photos help keep memories close at hand, but a safari is so much more than a photo trip.

This individual gives some idea why I was a bit nervous of the elephants.

This is a male Kudu finding his breakfast in the golden hour.

Kudu are you sure? - Looks more like an Impala to me.

Nice capture and lovely light though.

That last image was taken two years ago in Senyati camp, where indeed, there is a bunker next to a watering hole.

Here's some more;

Brothers. At first it was only one boy, then the other showed up as we were starting to leave. Since lions greet each other with face rubs, we opted to wait & photograph it. We though we were in the perfect spot until the oncoming brother turned his body at the last moment sticking his rear end in our faces. I still took the shot knowing it wasn't a good view. :lol::lol::lol:

This is after the greeting.
