At Marataba we had dirt tracks, some of which were quite overgrown. In the main we kept to the tracks, but there were a few areas where we could leave them. In Madikwe, there were a few gravel roads and many more dirt tracks. We were able to go off piste once a sighting had been made. When walking, we were mainly on grassland or following animal trails.

Wow, paved roads! We traveled over dirt trails & grass....One had to have a special permit to leave the dirt roads (we did!) but I never saw anything paved after we left Nairobi.

Hyenas have learned about strength in numbers. Even the lions will not take them on. Mama hyenas keep their babies deep in their dens longer than other animals so there is less chance of them getting killed. Ugly but smart....and the leaders are always the females ;-)a

That was the “tar road” which was used to traverse the reserve for long distances. We were rarely on it except the wild dogs and hyenas chose that place for their little meetup.

Since Timbavati is a private reserve we were off road a lot looking for predators and such.

Yay, back on my feet this afternoon. Still gimping with the leg but it is getting much better with the medications. To celebrate....here is a cheetah first thing after he woke up in the morning.

Not sure yet ......... well I am but it might change. Went to Kenya a couple of times in early 90's (19, not 18 ..) and had a Canon EOS 10. Could not really afford colour print smatch so had lots of Ilford FP4 as I could process and print at home.

This week, finalising a trip to Chobe with Pangolin Photos. Not going to use their gear but will take my Olympus E-M1X and lens, plus may take my Caon 5D3 and L lenses. So time will tell what sort of Wildlife photographer I am !!

Have a great time and bring back some amazing photos. I still have some left to post, but we need some more African wildlife posters.

Slowly working my way through the rest of my Africa pictures.... 4000 is A LOT to dig through. I just laughed & laughed at these Juvenile elephants playing in the river. It was raining off & on so we parked above them for a good hour & were highly entertained.
