I know lions bringing down adult giraffes is rare but one looks like a juvenile and they are fair game for a pride. The picture was taken in 2012 so memory may be playing me tricks but it was taken out of a Land Cruiser so roughly on a level with their heads. Colin

HoneyMonster Senior Member More info | Mar 05, 2020 13:33 | #1415 We also came across 3 giraffes sitting down in the late evening. The guide explained that the giraffe has a tendon in their neck that allows them to hold their head up without tiring their neck muscles. I believe they were sleeping like this. I wonder if they took turns to sleep with one always on guard.

HoneyMonster Senior Member More info Post edited over 3 years ago by Honey Monster. | These are majestic animals. Most of the females we saw had tracking collars. Cheetahs are now endangered and the reserves want to try and keep track of them. We also saw this with the alpha female of a wild dog pack. These are also very endangered. I am not sure how the tracking helps the population, but perhaps it allows rangers to see if they are travelling to areas that may be dangerous for them.

MaureenSouza Ms. MODERATOR Something Spectacular! More info | One of our safari guides thinks cheetahs in the wild are down to their last 2 generations. Our only hope to keep this species alive is breeding them in captivity. So tragic. They are so magnificent! Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

HoneyMonster Senior Member More info | I have some more that I will need to dig out, including a ‘little’ one. Because of their height it is quite difficult to decide how to shoot them.
