What kind of Wildlife Photographer Are "YOU"

AND FURTHERMORE!!!

OK... this is neither exotic, nor is it comparatively well shot, but it was a get it quick or lose it moment!

Crows are known for their sophisticated social behaviour and intelligence, but I have never actually seen a crow wince before. This one was getting a severe telling off by its partner on the right. Crestfallen comes to mind...

I believe Maureen wanted to see some more giraffes.

This was a very noisy lion on an elephant carcass. The light was fading fast, so I had to crank the ISO up high. I also initially forgot that I set a maximum of ISO 6400 on my 7d2, so I also underexposed a few shots. I know some photographers would say that they would put the camera away in such situations, as they couldn’t get a perfect shot with no noise. As I am unlikely to ever see this again, I decided it was a worthwhile shoot. It has given me a chance to try out the new Topaz tools as well. I don’t think I will be able to print this at a large size, but they seem OK on the screen.

Some closer shots of the same lion. In this park the number of vehicles at an animal sighting was limited to a maximum of 3. We had a bit of a wait to get our turn and the light was fading fast. However, the lion was fast asleep, until we drew close, when it woke up. So, we had the best views of anybody.

low light or near no light. The light is working for what was happening then and there. I give the whole set 6 stars!

Emagine a few years back if you would have been there and had maybe 160asa film.

I like a little “grit” sometimes. Well captured!

The light is what is available. I crank the ISO up to what is needed to get the shot. My copy of a 7D2 works well enough at high ISO.

Well the most fun shots are at dawn & dusk so I found taking a few shots was all I needed, then put my camera down to watch with my eyes. These look great.

Thank you Maureen. This old boy wasn’t going to let anyone else near his find. He looked pretty scarred on face and body and had a broken upper canine. I think he was also missing a lower canine. I suspect he may have been ousted from his pride by a younger male or males. The guide thought that the elephant had died naturally.

We spotted these hyenas early in the morning, not very far from our lodge. They appeared to be settling down for a sleep, perhaps after a night hunting or scavenging.
