Just thought I would wake you all up. And to add to the horror, I took those pictures with a 24-70mm lens!

Well i finally got all my Africa pictures looked at about 2 weeks ago. I still haven't edited them all yet, though. Since my travel plans for May are all cancelled, I guess I have plenty of time to get to them. The hardest part of all this COVID confinement is not seeing my little grandkids that I have taken care of 30 hours a week since they were each teeny tiny. I miss them so much!

Let’s hope we see some more of your pictures soon Maureen. In the mean time keep safe and healthy. The separation from the grandkids will make it even better when you next get to see them. I am also still selecting and editing my photos from last year’s safari and will post some more soon. I had hoped to be going back this year, but will now have to wait until it is safe to travel again.

Being in lock-down right now, it was a good time to explore our immediate environment and my daughter found this little character hiding under some of our garden chairs. It's the New Zealand Weta - see: https://en.wikipedia.o​rg/wiki/Weta

While it may look fiercesome, it is a fairly quiet, gentle creature and would prefer to find safety in the shade rather then be aggressive. Occasionally the females will be a bit feisty to protect their eggs. This one, about 100mm (4") long, was heating up after a cool night and after photographing it I guided it to a nice safe place in a trellis.

Well during this time of shelter in place, I would hope more of you post some pictures so I can enjoy them. It is no fun posting alone.

250mm uncropped. At this point I am wondering if he sees me, the car is 250 yards away and locked. How fast is he? I look down at my lcd to check exposure, I look back up and he is gone. My heart starts pounding, wait, he is right there he just stopped. Now he is moving toward me again. I watched him walk down the hillside the out of view, my heart starts pounding again, so loud I wonder if I would even hear him coming through the brush 20 yards below me.

It was a cougar, I was standing on a fire road. Kinda does look like I am in a tree tho. Lol

Thanks. The way the storey was told I could picture you shinning up the nearest tree and going higher the nearer it got
