Hey David, yes.. I bought it mainly for star field shots and for doing video at night. SO far, it works really well for those things. I also love the small improvements that they've added above the A7R (which is still my favorite camera).

Sony is hitting on all cylinders right now and it shows. The big guys (ha, Sony isn't big?) Nikon and Canon are falling flat on their asses right now.

Canon Rumors now have a purported photo of Canon's high mp camera and specs. Hopefully, that will mean that Sony will announce their 50+ mp version soon as well.

I'm hoping the 5DS, with the "S" signifying "Sony" sensor.... but I'm not holding my breath.

If it is Canon's own 50MP sensor, then I will barf all over my keyboard.

it's probably based off of the 7D2, and it'll be fine. Even the DR on those newer canons are much improved over previous gens (5D3 is definitely previous gen :-P)

I did a comparison on the A7r uprezed to match the pixel density of the EOS-M, and surprisingly, the M came out on top. Just cleaner, sharper, better image all around, and I imagine a 50mp canon will be the same.... now if sony gets into the 50mp game, then things get interesting, but I highly doubt one will blow the other one out of the water.

Both the 7D, 7D mark II, and 5D mark III have just shy of 12 stops of DR...so no improvement there. For reference, even the a6000 has 13 stops of DR

Don't really know how the 5Ds sensor performs in terms of DR....but larger sensors and/more more megapixels does not equal better DR.

If the 7DII really is an indication of how the 5Ds will perform in terms of DR, then everyone should prepare to be disappointed.

I am cleaning up vomit as we speak. ;-)a

I don't know, this is not a very inspiring update from Canon. The true use of this type of body is very limited, much more so than most of Canon's recent attempts, not to even start on the sensor being used.

The first 5D body(s) that I truly have no desire to own, whatsoever.

I'm still rather content with Sony's offerings and I am looking forward to what they do next. It's amazing that Sony is now in the driver seat of innovation when it comes to digital imaging - who'd have thunk that?

well at least the 11-24 is a very cool looking lens, unfortunately, a little too expensive, and size wouldnt work well with the sony.

Not in the market for another camera right now, but am interested in seeing what Sony's 50MP offering will yield. If the initial comments from Canon are true and DR with the 5Ds(r) is on par with the 5DIII, we might see an even bigger movement away from Canon over to Sony. It seems like a lot of people were sitting on the fence to see what Canon would have to offer, and unless there's something else about the camera that we don't know, the 5Ds looks like its going to be the let-down that tips them over to Sony/Nikon.

Also, the EOS-M3 is another half-assed attempt at the mirrorless market...particularly since they have the technology in place to make waves in the mirrorless arena (dual pixel AF).

Are these adaptors going to fix AF on my Canon/Sigma (Canon fit) lenses for moving subjects though.

It appears that we can expect new stuff from Sony late March, early April. And this rumor has the SR5 status which is the highest level and means "almost certainly correct!".

(UPDATED to SR5) Sony to launch new products in late March-early April.

UPDATE: Multiple sources confirmed the Sony product announcement event. I upgraded the rumor to my max SR5 score :)

The sources “heard” that Sony will announce new “major” products in late March-very early April. They didn’t share the actual public announcement date yet. But this confirms the rumors we got the last couple of weeks suggesting that Sony would “skip” the Cp+ event to get more spotlight on their new products. I will now try to get the date of the March announcement event. And let’s hope some of the rumored cameras (a7rII, A7000 and so) will be announced on that day too!

If an A9 gets released with A7s sensor, dual card slots and better autofocus performance and battery life, might come in handy at weddings for ring shots with the EVF and the new 90mm macro. Color me interested now. Also that clickless aperture 35mm FE 1.4 would be pretty awesome for video.

Pretty much  I've shot gymnastics with MF, a little practice can go a long way. Is it as fast as a good AF system? No, but you can certainly get fast/accurate enough to get shots of your kids.

I wouldn't count on the a7S sensor bit unfortunately... there are far too many nay-sayers who think 12mp isn't enough for stills, heck, just try finding 2 reviews that don't claim it's not ideal for stills
