Stalker Castle, Loch Linne, Scotland

This is an HDR. However, the sky pretty much looked that way. Those of you who have been to Western Scotland will understand when I say the Midges were incredible that night. They really took a toll on my hands, face and neck despite using an insect repellent.

There isn't anything particularly sinful about HDR for landscapes, unless you get carried away with it. The added detail to the castle and island just make a good picture even better.

While you can't be given credit for the fortunate clouds, selecting a vantage point that put the little rock on the right to balance the central positioning of the castle is very effective. I assume you shooed the midges away from the lens before shooting the shot.

Thank you. I generally don't care for HDR because there is a tendency to over due it and often it is quite obvious. However, there was no way I could have gotten any detail in the castle without using HDR. Too much dynamic range for my camera. There may be other post processing techniques available, but I am not very familiar with them.

The Midges were not very interested in my lens. A little wind might have helped the situation.

You did a good job on the composition and HDR. It is not obvious that this was HDR.

Lovely picture, I like it a lot. As for the Midges, there's no repellant on earth that can deal with those little f*^%#}s!!!!

I also agree that the HDR doesn't over power this image, Nicely done.

Thank you. Three exposures. Can't remember if they were 1 or 2 EVs apart. I think it was probably 2. I use Photomatix.

I took the time to google it and was right.

While most castle scenes in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) were filmed in and around Doune Castle, Castle Stalker appears in the final scene as "The Castle of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh". First the castle is seen from a distance, next John Cleese taunts Arthur in a French accent from its battlements, then finally a massive attack is launched at the castle. But the castle is saved by the police who appear to arrest Arthur and his knights for the murder of a famous historian.
