THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.

I shot this last night with the 7D2 on a fixed tripod. ISO 3200, 10 seconds, f/1.4, and 85mm lens.

Mods, please delete this thread. I did not see that there was already a Lovejoy thread but I did see the Hale-Bopp one when looking. Thanks!

Left you a note on your other submission of same image but No there is no harm to start your own thread if that is what you desire or to get a specific question answered however for the sake of continuity, it is good to add to the original thread and you have already done.

As said before, I love your use of scale when showing Pleiades.
Also even nicer to realize here that it is only a single image and no Tracker (Thanks to that F1.4).
This should be a good role model to follow for anyone who has no tolls for astrophotography except personal interest and see how much you can show.

Keep up the good work and hope you show us more before Lovejoy goes into perihelion point of orbit. As you know, that is Jan 30 and as we talk right now, she is getting away from us (Earth) and every second, getting closer to Hot hot Sun!

in case anyone is interested to know more or what may change this comet in only few more nights.

Thank you Samsen. I simply failed to spot the other thread when I scanned down the list of threads - probably due to tunnel vision from wearing reading glasses while looking on my big computer screen. There was no need for a new thread.

This was actually my first night shot with the 7D2. As well it was the first time I used live view for focusing at night - I have screwed up several times in the past getting the focus on infinity while shooting wide open with other cams. My more typical night subject is the aurora and that subject needs short exposures so my technique is a bit different from the stacking approach used by many others. As well there is no real need for an equatorial mount.

The clouds have rolled in so it was a one night op on the comet (thus far).

Thanks for the shot fish_shooter. I am going to try this since yours turned out so well with equipment I have. I have the cloud problem but will hope for the best.

Thanks Ralph, hopefully you will get a clear night! Do not forget to bracket - this what I did to get the shot you see above - one of the better ones was selected for posting. Next time (I hope there is one) I will try some lower ISO settings with longer exposures - maybe the streaking will be unacceptable but one must try!
Good luck!
Tom
