What ND filter are people using to get the shallow DOF with the flash? Are the variable filters any good?
I'm looking to go from around f7.1 to f2.0 and just wondering what I should buy?

You posted a good question to a good thread that went dead. I hope you're patient. ;-)a I use filters anywhere from 1-3 stops. Brand is up to you. I've used some discount varieties (not the cheapest from dubious sources, mind you) that didn't seem to alarm anyone.

So to get this this thread going again ....

Location shoot firing one Yongnuo 568EX II, modified with a 40" brolly (camera left), triggered with YN-622c and YN-622c-tx.

Thanks PineBomb
For waking up this thread, I was thinking about starting a ND thread but still not sure which section it fits under

(EOS RebelT3i EF-S 18 - 55 IS II Kit) (EFS 55 - 250 mm lense f/4-5.6 IS II) (YONGNUO YN 565EX flash)

To be clear, ND filters aren't a requirement for this thread. My post, for example, was shot with a speedlite indoors, so it didn't need it. There are two other threads you might be interested in.

One is a wide open ND filter thread:

The other is a shallow DOF outdoors thread:

Did you make this ring yourself? I have not read through all the posts yet but any chance you would share your specs for it?

Thanks
