Hi all.
I have a 5 year old Toshiba laptop. I had it set up with Lightroom, anything I exported looked same on computer after export as it did in Lightroom, also was ok when uploaded here or to Flickr and crucially when printed.

I replaced laptop with new one recently. It's calibrated, runs Windows 8.1 but now when I export photos look washed out, dull. When I upload to web on my computer they look dull, when I view the upload on phone etc they look good, if I import a photo edited in Lightroom back into Lightroom it looks good again.

I think it's to do with how Lightroom is using colour space etc. This is a problem as now I can't set up to print correctly (I don't use Lightroom to print). Is there any way to set up computer so it shows photos as Lightroom shoes them. Thanks

Hi Jaomul, you need to calibrate your screen, with a device such as an X-Rite or Spyder.

I calibrated with x rite colormunki smile. It's like Lightroom uses one method of display but my internet and picture viewers use a different one.

It is entirely possible they may. If you calibrated the monitor for aRGB Lightroom will use Adobe RGB. Most likely your browser will not. Simplest thing to do would be to just calibrate the monitor to sRGB. Also, it is possible that you need to configure your browser to be color corrected. Many browsers are not calibrated by default.

I'll have to look up this stuff when I have access to my computer. My old Toshiba worked like a charm, no setting up. Hopefully this isn't to complex. Thanks both for your input

Yes, your picture viewer isn't a colour-managed program, so everything will always look different there.

The internet is a slightly different story.

This says "Facebook" but applies reasonably well to all websites: http://www.damiensymonds.com.au/art_tsfb000.html (external link)

Well, isn't that what you have Lightroom for?

I suppose it should be. All along I use it just for editing and export edits to a watched folder and used Picassa for sharing and printing. This worked well for me until I updated (downgraded :) ) my computer

My program that is the pivoting point to anything (photo)graphic is the fast, flexible and free FastStone Image Viewer.
It's color managed, but you must set it that way in Settings, since it's a bit slower then. Since I don't use the wider color spaces often, I switch this function on and off.
