AMASS 1.1 was installed 20 January 2014

List of changes (most of them)

Only lens and camera will be required for adding the photo to gallery. The rest will be optional. Metadata editor tweaked a little to make it simpler and clearer.

Top part of AMASS is redone. Page elements are moved and fonts changed. It is better for large screens and small screens. Responsive menus. (meaning: a facelift). The top menu changes according to screen width, keeping the menu items in place. Top navigation takes less space, is more functional and better looking.

Some color changes, more definition, easier to read in bright (and large) screens. The color differences a subtle, but are a very noticeable improvement on bright tablets and large screens. When you get wider, the background and some other elements get slightly darker gradually: a small difference but helps a lot with overly bright large screens.

All font choices in design are simplified and made larger in most cases. Arial (sans-serif) is the mostly used font. Jenna Sue is still there in some headers, and I like it so.

Bottom area has all the menu links. The bottom part has been slightly improved, more for that later. PM (alert) and Notifications (alert) are also on bottom part of the page.

Altered the dynamic scaling so that default margins get narrower on smaller devices, also avatars scale down a lot more on e.g. iPad vertical. The margin setting is reset to default for all with this update for this reason (to see how it works now).

On wide screens you'll get colored margins. If you change margins from default setting, the color is removed.

New & Followed are separated into two individual menu items, one is for the logged members (Followed & Own) and other is for all: New posts.

Notifications open in a "popup" on a fixed position, which means you do not have to leave a position in a page to view them.

Notifications are grouped by forum in the listing (in your order).

You have a CLEAR ALL command for notifications.

Search has a new "autohide" system: when you have search open, clicking a link in search results keeps the search open on the resulting page, any other link will close the search UI automatically. This has provent to be very intuitive way to handle when search stays open and when it is not needed on the next page.

Added three new forums:

Photo Sharing:
Architecture, Real-Estate & Buildings
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=172

Photography Talk:

Architecture, Real-Estate & Buildings Talk
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=173

General Gear Talk:
Tripods, Monopods & Other Camera Support
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=174

Stickies are forced on in Forum Talk and AMASS Talk forums.

Search result is sorted in order of "newest first" and not by "relevancy" - this is better suited for a forum search. Larger RESET and CLOSE buttons (you'll need to do a search to get them).

You may now choose the default follow thread mode, separately for REPLY/QUOTE and for POST TO THREAD. Defaults for both are "ASK AFTER SUBMIT".

Added a lot of gear, removed duplicates and fixed namings etc.
List of added items:

Added donated gear images (thanks):

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=84

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=109
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=110
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=112
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=120
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=129
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=226
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=2408

There have been many duplicates which were removed. The duplicates that have been added into some gear lists are kept and added a string (dupl.), they are listed in
https://photography-on-the.net …p?mf=0&find=dupl&list=all

If you have such a duplicate item added in your gear list, please remove it and add that same item without (dupl.). What all those are removed, I'll remove them from the gear lists.

Gear page has keyword search (and a manufacturer filter). When specs are mostly done you'll get a full search tool which let you search by any specs criteria.

Galleries have more items per page, and pagination also on bottom.

Gallery thumbnails show only camera and lens from metadata. Exception to that are gear galleries and member galleries which show all metadata with the thumb.

Poll listing page make clearer, and poll output also better defined.

Post editor: Moved SUBMIT and CANCEL to the right.

All forum thread listings have a revised "old POTN" style look for better readability.

forum thread listing: thread information boxes (POLL, FOLLOWED, OWN, STICKY...) are colored for easy quick look.

forum thread listings: unread and read are clearly distinguished. Visited link color suppressed as "confusing". The "small info" about what is unread is clearer and shown only when needed. Easy to remember rule: what you see in that side info is where clicking the title gets you.

Index page: you may collapse areas. This is stored in a cookie, so the collapse setup is different for each browser you use.

FYEO (i.e. The User CP) is now in a control panel format, one command/feature per page.

MARK FORUM(S) READ. This command marks all the posts (up to the moment you hit the button) read, sets vanilla read marking for all threads in that forum as read, clears current notifications for that forum and marks all unseen posts seen with followed threads. MARK ALL FORUMS READ has a confirmation, normal MARK FORUM READ command does not.

index page action commands moved to top (filter, rearrange) . Reset custom order command has a confirmation dialog.

Metadata editor tweaked a little to make it simpler and clearer.

pagination: page reload command: reloads the page without extra URL parameters.

Added Visited Threads listing to FYEO. When you visit any thread, it is added to this list, in order of visit time (thread you last visited is on top). AMASS has been storing that info all the time, so the list is populated now. Only that the followed and own threads were not in that list, but now they will be added, too, as you browse them.

Added a "hide side galleries" setting in FYEO.

Added a "disable animations" setting in FYEO.

Added a password change tool in FYEO.

All command buttons are enlarged slightly and spread apart a little more. All command buttons have mouseover glow.

Reduced preview draft saving "shake".

Light box glasses are visible regardless of images size: if image is smaller than the window a small + is inserted to denote this.

AMASS does not add source link to copied text any more. The only thing AMASS does now to copied text is removal of invisible hyphenation characters from it, so that for example links work when pasted to browser address bar.

Renamed LIST NEARBY THREADS to PREV/NEXT and moved it to a better location where it stays in the same place regardless of content, with other thread related commands.

Moved FOLLOW THREAD command to a better location where it stays in the same place regardless of content, change of status, aligned with other thread related commands.

Added SEARCH THREAD command for searching in current thread. It opens a box for you for entering the keyword. It is located with other thread related commands.

Added SEARCH FORUM command for searching in current forum. It opens a box for you for entering a keyword and/or title. It is located with other thread related commands.

[MORE/REPORT/SHARE] is "reduced": MORE changed to MORE INFO, and SHARE is removed (as there is no share yet), and the format is made wrappable in small screens.

Post permalink (#123) put to top right corner of a post.

Shortened page description texts.

Multiquotes are added to post automatically, and only if there is no previous draft found. If you reply to a post with the "QUOTE" command, that quote is inserted after the multiquotes. You are notified in editor when multiquotes have been added, and it is easy to remove them by pressing undo button once.

There is "CLEAR MQ SELECTIONS" button in quote tools, which clears the MQ cookie holding your current MQ selections.

Couple of editor command graphs changed.

Thread search result list shows now reply counts.

Added ISO 64 and some very high ones to ISO list.

Many many bugs fixed. Like "you get a notification and right after that the post was deleted: notification list shows now an odd "0 posts" listing item and you need to click the link to the nonexisting post to remove the notification."

I have done some more measures to prevent caching of AJAX calls with Safari. Let's hope they work for those who have had problems with ISP proxies, too.

---------------

WHAT IS NEXT:

before 1.2. I'll concentrate to finishing the remaining mods tools.

Some bugs will be fixed in 1.2:

PM restores an empty draft .
Very rarely image uploader fails to upload images (reason is known).

for 1.2 I'll add among other things:

per page settings.
some sorting settings.
hide avatars setting.
hide signatures setting.
Forum index "which have unread" marking methods.
Post editor toolbox options (default, simple, vertical...).
Post editor "remember tool positions" for large screens.
Add camera support gear category.
Add a switch to show real thumbs from G&N in galleries.
Change forum dropdowns all around to more sensible selection tool.
Make reviews index contain excertps, images, ratings etc.

Several other wishes and issues will be considered/done/solved.

Adding specs and images to gear is also an ongoing task.

Forgot to mention: post count is always shown next to the post, it is not hidden by height optimizer any more.

Thanks Pekka! Here's my wishlist for v1.2:

- Remove the confirmation dialog when resetting the search terms. It's not like we're at risk of losing something important...
- Make the search result a page on its own. It's a pain to have to read them in a tiny box and a very compressed layout.
- Move the post's timestamp from the bottom to the top of the post. It's annoying to have to scroll down past the post content to know if it was written 2 hours ago or 2 years ago.

Looks great. I also was taken by suprise. One minute I was looking at the old version, hit the refresh button and BAM i had the new version....

One thing though, it seems the post preview is not working for me. Has anyone else reporting it?

What would be nice is to bring back a direct link to one's own member page from FYEO (or was it the home page?) in AMASS1.0. With the new version, I have to click on 'Personal Info" under the list of items in the left column and then click on the link provided to get to my own member profile.

For me, my own member page is a very useful place to track activities and such.

Anyway, as stated in the other thread, I like the look and the streamlined heuristics of the new version -- thank you for all the hard work :-)

For a direct way to your own member page, click your (miniature) avatar on top right (of any page). For those who do not have an avatar, there is a home button.
