imho, above = no. 3: the Samyang, Rokinon, Bower 14mm f2.8. fun lens. easy to handle MF just use hyper-focus method.

aside from Canon's new budget buster 11-24mm, there's a paucity of great Canon ultrawides. zoom or prime.

I've used the ef 17-40mm f4L along with a Rokinon 14 & a Samyang 8. I also have a shelf of other canon primes, mostly wide angle: 20, 24, 28, 35, 40 & I just added the new ef-s 24 pancake stm.

again, nothing special about the 17-40 - except it's decent, it works, and I'd be hard pressed - today - to suggest a better quality/value offering. optically, the 16-35mm IS f4 is a preference - but one that I - so far - have found hard to justify in terms of real added value for funds expended.

perhaps others have more experience with this one...

good luck.

There are a lot of posts and nice photos under this thread so i'll read later as i'm on a similar boat.(Completed reading)

My problem is i'm so satisfied with my 15-85 and 10-22 that i wanna switch to FF for better noise handling, but especially for 10-22 i'm afraid of not being able to find the equal quality. I wanna move to Nikon but as i heard the 12-24's front element is easy to scratch which i'm not very careful about my equipment all the times. A lot of questions in my mind...

Edit: And those TS-E monsters of Canon, and the new ultra super duper wide angle of Canon. Yeah, i want them on a Nikon D810 but how ?

Saw a few posts around the forum similar to above statement. I'm curious, what (if anything) are 17-40mm owners are willing to pay to upgrade to 16-35mm f/4?

It was not too long ago that I had my eye on the 17-40mm f/4L for my 6D but, the 16-35mm f/4L with IS came out that that is the route that I took after reading the excellent reviews that it was and still getting.
I don't regret the extra $'s of the 16-35 over the 17-40. I wanted IS and so...
I'm finding that the 16-35 is near perfect for the 6D for my uses. Some will differ I'm sure. ;-)a

I am not "dissing" the 16-35mm f4. Quite the opposite, in fact, as it is on my "someday" list. In other words, I will eventually, or someday, purchase this lens.

To date, I have had alternative applications (higher priorities) for the use of available funds.

Imagine that.

Just wanted to update this thread with what I decided to do...

I decided to pick up a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 a week ago and after a recent trip to AZ and some more practice with my Rokinon 14 f/2.8 I think I'm happy now. 24mm on FF seems to be wide enough for most of what I want to do and when it's not, then I have the cheap but good 14mm option.

Now I just need to figure out my filters... Previously I used screw on 77mm B+W 10-stop and a CPL. I'm debating between 82mm screw on again or screw on CPL and LEE filter system (Big Stopper). Both options are quite a bit more expensive than 77mm and I'm finding little to no info about what people are using with the Tamron 24-70...

Good luck to those of you still trying to figure this out!
