I was trying out a Tamron 150-600 last weekend and a flock of Cedar Waxwings conveniently came to the backyard to model. Only the last shot used the full 600mm. They were either too close or there were too many branches in the way.

The extra reach is rely nice, but it's a bit cumbersome for a walk around lens. budcam wrote in post #17394290 Nice set Ken. Thanks, Dan. Red Dexs wrote in post #17394313 Well done Ken. Thank you. PixelPusher wrote in post #17394775 That third picture is really cool showing the color on the tips like that. Thanks for sharing! Thanks. There wasn't enough depth of field for the whole bird, but most of the flock wasn't showing any red and that's the only chance I got. Ken

I'm curious as to the nature of the fruit shown in several of your captures. I'd love to put something out to do a better job of attracting them if I could. Thanks. The fruit is some Granny Smith apples that got left on the tree. We also have a large heated bird bath and they regularly come to that. philk54 wrote in post #17397062 Great shots, Ken. Thanks for sharing. I've found the 150-600 is a great birding lens as far as reach goes, but I'd agree it is a bit much as a walk-around. But one of the nice features is that you can hand hold it. Thanks Phil. It was surprisingly easy to hand hold. The size was a bigger concern. I can slip my 100-400 into a TT Restrospective 7 when I want to take alone another lens or two, but the Tammy is much bigger.
