Currently own a 6D with the kit lens 24-105. I've owned it for about almost a year now and have started to notice the quality is not a superior as I would like. Does anyone have any suggestions on which L lens to buy? I am looking at the 24-70 f/4 lens right now but I'm contemplating whether I should get one of those or a prime lens. I shoot mainly cars and from time to time people.

I suggest posting some examples showing why you are not happy with the lens first - could be a lot of things going on other than 'lens quality' causing problems with the pictures. Good to compare with other 6D owners and see if they are getting the same or better image quality.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Note that the Canon 24-105mm f/4 lens (external link) already is a "L" series unit and here's a good chance that there will be little difference with the Canon 24-70mm f/4 "L" unit. (external link)

That looks to me like perspective distortion, not lens distortion.

What focal length did you use and how far away were you?

As said above, the distortion you are referring to is "perspective distortion" which is caused by being too close to the subject and using a short focal length lens (24mm in your situation) to "get it all in".

Please read our "sticky" tutorial on perspective control: Perspective tutorial

A tilt & shift lens will get rid of the distortion but will set you back quite a few dollars.

If price is of little concern I would recommend the 35L prime to shoot cars and the 85L or 135L to take portraits.

The Sigma Arts lens are also very good, but I have not personally used them.
For taking photos of cars, you may desire a blurry background to draw attention to the car itself.
This is not something your zoom lens can do as well as a prime. It is faster, with a thinner DOF.
However, even with a wide open prime not something that can easily be done.
Because when shooting with the 35mm at f1.4 it will give you a half - blurry car as well as the background.

That lens can take nice photos, but you must first figure out how much working distance you have.
The goal would be to use the longest lens possible to minimize perspective distortion, however that is not always possible. Therefore the 35mm prime lens makes for an effective compromise.

I have the same 6D and I use my 50mm for cars rather than my 24mm.
I use my 24mm for very tight spaces, creative photos or landscapes primarily.

Here is an example of the OOF achievable.

(Photo ASAP)

As for portraits, the 85mm and 135mm are very pleasing visual for human faces as the subject.

Here is an example link for comparison (not mine)

http://cdn4.mcpactions.com …llengtharticle.jpg?b8499d (external link)

PLease not that this is NOT an issue with the lens itself. Rather it is the camera to subject difference.
To frame that same shot you must be extremely close to the subject, whether it is a person or a car.
Again the issue of require working distance should be factored in.

For the portrait example, the 85mm lens has a minimum focusing distance of 3 feet.
If that space is not physically available (indoors, etc) it will be an very unuseable lens for you.

I hope this help you in making a decision.

Also note, if budget is an issue the 35 f2 IS and the 85mm f1.8 lenses are priced very will used on this forum.
