Anyone have any luck with extenders or something close to the Nikon DK17M magnifier or Nikon DK19 rubber eyecup? I wish my 5DIII was easier to look through with my glasses on as my D700. Thanks!

I've looked as well and Canon doesn't seem to make one for the larger eyepieces used by their larger cameras.

I use the EP-EX15 for both my 60D and 70D but it won't fit my 7D2.

Maybe this eyepiece from Hoodman (external link) will do the job for you. They make one for use with glasses.

It may block some buttons and is annoying with a quick shift to portrait mode (it does rotate, but sometimes you don't have time for that). Also, don't forget that you will not be able to get your eye close enough to the viewfinder to see the corners in terms of composition. That was the major reason that I tried and gave up on all extenders, Hoodman and Canon.

Both ThinkTank and Aquatech make eyepiece extenders for use with their waterproof covers. I use them on my 7D.

Here it is on my 5D3 but they've been out of stock for a very long time. Maybe there's another site that sells/carries it.

Can you see the corners of the viewfinder when your eye is that far away from it? That was the reason I eliminated all aftermarket extenders and stayed with the OEM.

Thank you, hollis_f.

I ordered an eyepiece from Think Tank and it showed up today. It's perfect. I like the fact that the foam is very dense and looks like it will last a long time. I wear glasses and it isn't an issue as I can put my glasses right up to the eyepiece.

Thanks again, Frank.

Unfortunately, you lose a little bit of the corners. Since you're now putting an extender, you're further away and the corners are covered. I'm able to live with it while some others can't.

It has been a while but for those who own a 7D/Mark II, 5D Mark III/Mark IV, 1D X/Mark II and other 1D series, we're looking at 3D printing the eyecup extender since JJC and Goja no longer makes them. Here is the post

That's awesome 1KIND. I had some on order from Cowboy Studio for almost a year as they kept saying they were getting more but never did.

I actually ordered from them and was only able to get 2. I eventually had to tell them to update their site to say out of stock. They won't be getting anymore as JJC stopped making them.

Lol, I ended up getting the 1DX II for the extended eyepiece. Might get a D810 or its replacement just to have the 1D/D3 style eyecup in a landscape camera. Wish Canon would put a similiar eyecup into its 5DsR II, although I doubt it'll ever happen.

5DS R uses the same eyecup as the 1D C, 1D X/Mark II, 7D/Mark II and the 5D Mark III/IV. I'm sure that the 5DS R Mark II will probably still use the same eyecup. Canon has only a few different eyecup models.

I finished up the 3D CAD file. I just need to print and do a final fitment test for the eyecup.

Oh, I meant eyepiece instead of eyecup. As in the integrated closing mechanism and the extended eye relief without affecting magnification.

I keep meaning to order one of these eye cups to keep the grease off the LCD. Not to mention, if I use the camera for a couple hours continuously, I swear I always end up with a pimple on my nose about a week later, in the exact spot that contacts the screen. :-P
