OK, before you jump to the conclusion that I've gone totally mad I know the name is Ruby-crowned Kinglet. I think you'll agree, however, that at least this little guys "crown" has slipped :-)

It's a little rare for me to see any ruby color on the crowns of these Kinglets as they are Winter visitors only. This one was too cute not to share as it definitely has a somewhat different positioning of it's ruby color. Thanks for having a look and I hope your liked them. Comments, critiques and general comments are welcomed as always.

Well captured Steve. I have seen a couple around here with just the end showing, but mostly as you have said none at all. There must have been another kinglet or two nearby in my experience so you can see at least some of the crown. Maybe you will get lucky and see it raised soon if you can find the bird again.

Thanks John!
I've seen this particular bird on several occasions so maybe if they interact with the other 3 or 4 around I'll get more color showing. I'll keep watching....

Haha Jeff, they can be tough can't they! Thanks for that recognition :-)
This one was relatively easy and just different enough that I had to share.

Thanks Jeremy! The smooth backgrounds were a function of how close the Kinglet was; I'll have to check to see what made them so green :-)

Fine set there Steve, especially with a bird which is a little different to what you expect. Here's a thought: A new species might be first noted by someone like yourself spotting a variant of an existing species and commenting on it with photographic evidence to back that up. Wouldn't that be something!

Haha Mark, I think you've just described the dream of every photog here on the forum...certainly would be one of mine. It is interesting how much more detail you can see with these kind of images in hand though. Thanks for the comment my friend.
