I'm thinking about purchasing the sigma 8-16mm wideangle. I own the 10-20mm sigma but I really really really want that extra 2mm wider lol without it being a fisheye! Does anybody own this lens and have much to say about it? Or anybody have any input on my decision? I don't think any other companies have a non fisheye lens this wide. At least I haven't seen any. Any help please?

i bought mine last year, fantastic lens, real wide. just excellent. I use it at car show to gain a different perspective. My avatar was taken with it and i was 2" away from the car. Do it, it's a blast. There is one for sale in the buy section for a steal.

I've had one since 2012 .... I used it on my 7D, and have since used it on my 1.3X crop (1D3 and 1D4) and FF (5D/3), the latter with a 1.4X TC. This allows me to go as low as effecively 14mm on both bodies without significant vignetting.

I really like the 8-16mm; I kept it as my only "designed for 1.6X crop) lens when I sold the 7D. Sharp, good colour and contrast.

Here's a couple of images taken with it, using a 1.6X crop, I assume you have a 1.6X crop, right?

I have this lens and use it a lot! Much more than I thought I would actually. I don't have the 10-20 so I can't really comment on it. I also have the Tokina 11-16m that I don't use much any more after getting the Sigma. I keep it around since it is faster (f/2.8) but unless I'm in low light I prefer the Sigma.

Vignetting on FF starts at 14mm.

Here are a couple of examples of what 8mm can do:

In spring 2013, I did tests with a Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 to investigate the vignetting.
As the lens is intended to be used with 1.6X cropped sensor bodies, I wanted to find out what happened when it was used with a 1.3X cropped sensor Canon 1DMkIII and a full frame sensor Canon 5DMkII. I have not repeated the experiment with my current bodies (1D3 and 5D3, but would assume the results would be very similar). I also tried a set of images using a Kenko 1.4X DGX Pro teleconvertor fitted between the lens and the 5DMkII.

Here are the results of my experiment (there are three sets of images; this particular example is from the 1D3). All the sets of images were taken on a tripod, position unchanged. I used f/8 as the aperture, as that is where I tend to use this lens. All the images are uncropped and unedited.

For the 1.3X Crop 1D3:
Parameters: 1/13s, f/8, ISO 1600, lens setting: 11mm, effective Focal Length: ~14mm
I believe this is the widest setting that could be used with this combination without significant post processing of the image. The vignetting is very slight and could be easily corrected.
Image is uncropped and vignetting not edited:

For the 5D2:

Parameters: 1/13s, f/8, ISO 1600, lens setting: 16mm, effective Focal Length: 16mm
I believe this image would be usable with significant vignetting correction during post processing. Images taken at a wider setting are not usable:
