I was pretty excited to take out my new 7D II after upgrading from my 7D. My first shoot went well, until I tried to open the RAW files with Photoshop Camera RAW. My old 7D files open fine, but the 7D II files will not open. Photoshop says I need to upgrade, but when I check for upgrades, I get a message that I have the updated version.

Suggestions????

LightRoom 5.7 is up to date and, I imagine the CC version of PS is as well. The standalone version of PS is now outdated so it may not be able to read 7D2 RAW. You could also use the DPP that came with your camera but that would add a step (and a huge TIF) to your workflow. Personally, I would say it's time to start using LR as your principal PP software and save PS for when you need pixel level manipulation.

Get your ACR 8.7.1 here >http://helpx.adobe.com …aw-plug-in-installer.html (external link) , Windows or Mac.

List of new supported cameras and lens lineup plus a link to DNG Converter 8.7 here >>>http://blogs.adobe.com …er-8-7-now-available.html (external link)

ACR combatibility list for Adobe Apps > http://helpx.adobe.com …patible-applications.html (external link)

If you have PS CS 5 or earlier, you won't be able to use ACR 7.0 or higher. I think you need at least the 8.7 version to open the 7dII RAW files.

It would be an immense help to know what version of Photoshop & ACR you currently have, only then will we be able to help you.

Thanks to all for your response. I have CS6 and am not sure of what ACR I had because in trying to update it, it has disappeared.

I think I've isolated the problem. Basically, I'm working with an old OS X on my iMAC (Snow Leopard), that will not allow me to upgrade my ACR to vs 8.7.

I'm working on the upgrade to OS X, but interestingly (e.g. frustrating) Apple does not have that as a download, you have to purchase it and the EMAIL you the update, which takes up to 3 business days. As I started this on Friday, I'm still waiting for my upgrade.

So, my enthusiasm for processing my 7D II images will have to be subdued for awhile.

I hope I don't have another issue, as I converted the 7D images to jpg, and PS CS6 does not recognize them either.....

You should be able to upgrade to Yosemite for free if your hardware is capable.

Not according to the link I provided. Apple says you can upgrade to Yosemite if you're running 10.6.8 which is Snow Leopard.

You're right. I see that now. But my iMac won't upgrade, I guess because it's a 2006 Model. I hate to fork out the $$ because this machine does what I need... of course except for now.... but with the Lion update maybe that will work.... but I have to wait some more business days for Apple to deliver my email.

So here is the bottom line... I can't upgrade my iMac because it is too old... so the investment in a new body has resulted in a need for an investment in a new computer... this sucks. A year ago I had 2T added to the iMac... I hope they can move that onto my new purchase.

According to the Adobe website: "Camera Raw 8.7 is now available as a final release for Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC." Did you try to update ACR from the link from Douglas? I updated CS6 running on my kids laptop using the link for 8.7. The laptop is running Win 7 not OS.

I couldn't update ACR, because my OS was too old.. and I couldn't update the OS, because my iMAC is too old (not supported by Apple any longer). All will be good in a day or so... new iMac on the way.

Yep, I see that Snow Leopard will only work up to ACR ver 8.3
Too bad you are unable to update the OS. Good luck with the new computer.:-)
