Grabbed a second 5D Mark III today with Firmware 1.3.3.
As of today people at Canon USA were not aware that 1.3.3 was being shipped or what the version entails.
My original 5D Mark III has version 1.2.3
One issue I have is and do not know if the new Firmware is the cause.
When going through the new camera I noticed the exposure was slightly different compared to original body 5D 1.2.3.
Both cameras in Manual Mode, One Shot, WB Flouresent, ISO 640, f/2.8 spot meter, same lens same spot on floor, RAW, You get the idea. Meter at 0 for Proper exposure is what alerted me.

Camera 1.2.3 Mode Dial in Manual, f/2.8. ISO 640, SS 1/100
Camera 1.3.3 Mode Dial in Manual, f/2.8, ISO 640, SS 1/80

So is the 1.2.3 basically under exposing or 1.3.3 over exposing even though I am at 0 on the meter?

Unfortunately I can not go back to 1.2.3 on the new camera. Can upgrade 1.2.3 to 1.3.3 when it is officially released here in US.

If this is a case of firmware I would welcome it as my 5DMIII meters 2/3 a stop below what I am used to with my 7D.

Is it possible to copy the firmware from one camera to another? I would kill for this update since my 5DIII underexposes about 1/2 stop

Bases on what criteria? Have you calibrated body using an incedent meter? How are you metering and with what as a target? Shooting in daylight, tungsten?

I've always thought the 5DIII under-exposed so I'll be very happy with this upgrade! I have the exposure compensation set to +2/3 most of the time.

Coming from a 60D where I have EC permanently at 2/3, the 5DIII exposes spot on! The result is somewhat saturated compared to the 60D but the histogram is perfect.

Version 1.2.3 here and see no reason to change it, unless Canon could implement retroactively lightmetering on the AF point.

The hardware in the 5D Mark III doesn't allow metering to follow the AF point, so no firmware will make that happen.

SDiver.
You findings are similar to my unscientific results.
Unfortunately no one at Canon can give the details of 1.3.3 since they do not even know what it is as of yet.
Hopefully the issue I have is firmware related. This way both Mark III's will be consistent.

Yes I did a similar test to you using a couple different lenses with overlapping focal ranges on the 7d and 5DM3. The 5D was always about 2/3 a stop below the 7D in metering and I preferred the exposure of the 7D in all these cases. Like others said here and elsewhere, I treat +2/3 EC as "normal" on this camera. Would love to not have to do that anymore. Even 1/3 a stop of correction would be nice.

The only current advanced camera, except the 1DX, where the hardware does allow this is the 7D Mark II. But there they decided that it shouldn't have it, when the specification was set up.
Maybe it's technically possible in some models which have nine AF points only, but I haven't checked them. For sure, they'll not get it, since nowadays Canon delivers this in the 1D-series only. My now pretty old EOS 30 does have partial metering linked to the AF points, but that's the only thing I've seen that even resembles spot metering at the AF points outside the 1D-series.
