I did a shoot on Thursday for a coat company called Great Northern Girl. Here are two from the session. I used a 6D with a 70-200 2.8 II. It was about 9-10:30 AM so I had a few issues with the rising sun. But a reflector and some flash took care of it. CC always appreciated!

**Darn I lost the first two images when I posted the second two.

what you have here is an editorial. The only thing that is not good here is you are not showcasing the product itself. Hopefully the company you got commissioned to do this is okay with it. Designers and manufacturers want to see how the product looks in real application (show the details). Forget about the models and concentrate on the product you are commissioned to shoot. If they are agency models...they would automatically know what to do.

^ How do you know this wasn't shot exactly as the Art Director preferred? Kudos to the OP for having the talent to pull off the shoot under challenging conditions. I'd like to see the finished product in context.

Thanks to you both for commenting. The owner of the company is the woman in red. This is what she wanted as the direction of the shoot. There are actually a bunch more shots in different positions, etc. These are just two samples. She's happy, and she's the one who paid. So I think it's mission accomplished. Ha-ha. One of her mission statements is something along the lines of "bringing out the inner beauty" or one of these types of slogans, so she just wanted her and her friend to look great while posing with the coats on.

Thanks again...always great to get feedback.

that explains it...the owner is the model.

I've always dealt with designers and marketing directors .

From my experience, art directors usually handle the set and color blocking.... not the poses and wardrobe selection.

Designers are very strict about posing. ..hands , hair, arms , any body part not covering the product especially intricate embroidery, embellishments in their pieces.

Just sharing from my experiences with shooting look books and editorials.

Thanks, Phil...appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I've got limited experience with product shoots, and the owner is just starting out herself. There is no budget for a team of people here. Ha-ha. But these details are great to know for future shoots if I get asked.
