I don't see it mentioned elsewhere.

Apparently "New Posts" automatically updates everytime you go back from a visited thread. For example, if I click the first thread in the list of New Posts, spend some time reading the thread, maybe adding a post, and then use the browser's "back" button to return to the "New Posts," the list is now automatically updated to show threads updated.

This is probably an intended feature. However it makes it difficult, at least for me, to get through all the updates I might be interested in. I would prefer it if the "New Posts" list were static until I asked for the list to be updated by either refreshing the page or clicking again on New Posts (as is common behavior on just about every other forum I visit).

So if there was some way for me to disable automatic refresh of the New Posts list I would greatly appreciate it.

All those decisions have to be weighted from all angles. With sites like this not checking a page for updated content makes things very confusing, like having PM notification of PM you read on another tab, or apparently not following thread which you just started to follow. Then there are problems with certain page cache settings with e.g. iPad which might think you are logged out when it gets a cached page from 2 months ago where you entered the site as guest before logging in (seen that happen).

I could see if it is viable to make cache mode a user setting for new posts page, but the default mode will be "always check for new content".

A thought: what if you had some pointer to the last thread you viewed, on the new posts page? Something like PREV/NEXT does on thread pages ("YOU ARE HERE"). That would let you focus your eye on the thread you just looked at, and go on from there regardless of new threads appearing on top of the list.

To tell the truth I'm used to it now.

I'm still trying to figure out the intended operation of the Search results and PM's. But I'll start another thread to ask about those when I have time.
