You won't regret it. I got mine a few weeks ago and can't stop using it. The sharpness is amazing.

@ mannetti21

nice review.

I'm seriuosly considering this lens due to the price and the VC..

question: would this lens be applicable/good for sports?
thanks

I haven't really attempted to use it specifically for sports, but only because it is limited to 70mm. If you were in a situation where you could get really close to the action, then I don't see any reason why it wouldn't preform well. For what it's worth, I've had no issues tracking little kids and pets that are moving about. Keep in mind though, the camera body is at least part responsible for tracking movement effectively.

Thank you very much for your reply and your review, this will be my next lens in the coming days...:-)

Nice, honest review. I bought the Tamron as a standard zoom when I bought a 6D, and I found it to perform pretty much as you described. I liked the Tamron. It was a good performer.

Unfortunately, I didn't get over the lust, and I bought a Canon version II about 6 months later. I found that, apart from the obvious (price and IS), the Canon performed better in every other facet that I could compare - IQ, AF speed and accuracy, etc. Unlike your experience, my copy of the Canon was better than the Tamron at all focal lengths.

Cheers, Damien

Great review!

I agree, and it is especially frustrating when swapping between lens. I haven't quite gotten used to it, but it only takes a fraction of a second for me to figure out that I need to twist the opposite direction. I'm not quite sure why they decided to reverse the twist.

For me, I guess it's more that the motion is unnatural. Where my hand has to be position to zoom in is on the right side of the lens instead of the left. It feels more comfortable (still weird compared to Canon zooms) to position my fingers on top of the lens, but that also makes me feel like I don't know what I'm doing, lol.

I believe Nikon's lenses zoom in the same direction. So maybe it's just weird for us, haha.

It's muscle memory - I switched to Nikon system and all the Nikon lenses move the same direction. I still find it odd to fight my muscle memory since I have used Canon for quite while prior... it feels slightly unnatural and more difficult but I am sure over time that will fade away. True it is only a fraction of a second in terms of issue or pause before I realize I need to move the opposite direction - but sometimes that fraction is all it takes to miss a moment. Either way the Tammy 24-70 is a great lens for the money!

Thanks for the review. I was looking to buy my second 'L' class lens but may now go for this one instead.

I own and love this lens as well. It's a great lens from Tamron, really a solid bit of optical engineering. Using this lens over the canon mk2 allowed me to fill in some other holes in my lineup.

Good review.
