I use a single focus point on the head/neck/chest area. In post 5 above, you can see that runners lean forward. You can also see that the area available to focus is nearly the same as a center point in the waist but the center is nearly a foot behind the face. I want face sharp, not pants, so I focus high on the body.

I agree with ChunkyDA, high on the chest at f2.8 will usually get face and feet in focus from half court to foul line area. If the play is right on top of you, you need to focus on the head to keep eyes in focus.
